Police Digital Service
Remit: Police Digital Service Board of Directors plus the Audit and Risk Committee
Location: Remote with occasional travel to London
Salary: £14,000 per annum on the basis of two days work per month
The Police Digital Service (PDS) is responsible for coordinating, developing, delivering, and managing digital services and solutions that enable UK policing to safely harness technology to improve public safety. Funded by policing and the Home Office, PDS works with law enforcement organisations, private industry, charities, public bodies, and government to deliver digital services and solutions with policing, for policing.
The PDS Board is chaired by Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, Stephen Mold, and is comprised of 16 Directors, including the two roles being recruited through this process. In addition to the PDS Board responsibilities, you will also be an independent yet active member of either the Audit and Risk Committee or the Workforce, Nominations and Remuneration Committee.
These worthwhile positions are involved in high-level decisions on approving strategy, reviewing critical budgets, monitoring governance and supporting the Executive team operationally. PDS are looking for the right people with the passion to make a difference, and ability to think widely on strategy, whilst having attention to detail on budgets.
As a member of the PDS Board a large part of the role will be to provide independent governance scrutiny and advice on business transformation. We are looking for people with proven senior leadership experience in a complex business environment and clear strategy, transformation and cost saving experience, as well as experience of identifying and mitigating risk.
You will be a naturally creative and strong strategic communicator with know-how on advising on corporate, strategic communications matters, including managing challenging, proactive messages and have a strong knowledge and understanding of trends in digital media.
For the Audit and Risk Committee the ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant (ACCA Member), with substantial experience in finance and accounting. A large part of the role will involve providing independent scrutiny, oversight and assurance on risk management, internal controls and financial governance. The ability to support the Executive Team in influencing key strategic stakeholders on the developing needs of Digital, Data, Technology and Cyber Security investments would be an advantage but is not a core requirement of this role.
