Information Governance Officer

I am currently seeking a dedicated Information Governance Officer to advise and support on all Information Governance issues. The ideal candidate will guide and support users of information within the organisation and work collaboratively with Information Governance Officers across various units. This role is crucial for the implementation of policies and procedures in line with Information Governance and Security Strategy.
Day to Day of the role:
• Collaborate with various offices and teams to develop Information Governance/Information Security policies and strategies.
• Lead the management team in embedding policies and procedures.
• Supervise and curate the Information Asset Register, advising Information Asset Owners.
• Support internal and external audit processes and maintain audit reports.
• Evaluate information security and data privacy training requirements, ensuring delivery and quality assurance.
• Implement and lead an induction and training programme for all staff on information responsibilities and data security.
• Support Privacy by Design processes by reviewing new projects and assisting with DPAs and DPIAs.
• Advise on applications for external research datasets.
• Investigate and manage Information Governance incidents according to business protocols.
• Participate in public engagement and widening access activities as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Degree level education or equivalent experience.
• Substantial experience with ISO 27000, NHS Data Security Toolkit, Cyber Essentials, or managing Information Governance in clinical trials.
• Understanding of GDPR/DPA2018 and its application in a large organisation.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to work independently, be proactive, and show initiative.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
Desirable:
• Experience in convening and reporting to committees.
• Experience delivering security and governance training programs.
• Experience in Information Governance in a clinical or research setting.
• Awareness of relevant legislation and regulatory standards.
• Relevant qualifications such as IAPP CIPP/E, BCS CDP, CISMP, PCIRM, or CISSP.
