Job description

Our client, a large government customer, are seeking an Integration Trials Engineer to join their team. The role is based in Bristol with 3 days/week remote working. The role requires SC clearance and candidates must be sole UK nationals.

Requirements are scheduled to run for 220 days from contract initiation and offer a rate up to £530/day.

IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. Our client has indicated that they intend to operate the engagement as Inside IR35. Candidates would be required to operate through an umbrella company on this engagement. The rates above represent rate payable to the umbrella co.

Brief Team Description

  • Joint Sensor and Engagement Networks Delivery Team (JSENS DT) are responsible for delivery of integrated solutions. The team integrates sensors, Command and Control (C2), and effectors to deliver capability.
  • JSENS is organised as a matrix organisation, with vertical project teams and horizontal technical swim lanes which provide engineering SME to projects. This post will sit in the ‘System Engineering’ swim lane and provide capacity to deliver ‘System of System’ (SoS) trials including Integration Trials, verification trials and field trials.

The Role

The post holder will fulfil the role of ‘Integration Trials Engineer’ and be responsible for the conduct of trials events, leading on:

  • The technical elements of GFA delivery.
  • Coordinating the daily trials activities of multiple contractors and user representatives during trials to successfully deliver trials outcomes.
  • Preparing test plans and test reports for Authority led trials.
  • Reviewing documentation and witnessing tests for contractor led trials. 

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate activities of multiple contractors and users to deliver trials outcomes.
  • Preparation of Test Plans and Test Report for Authority led trials.
  • Test Plan, Test Case and Test report for the Annual Regression Test.
  • Emerging UCR Test documents.
  • Test documents for in service fault investigations.
  • Delivery of Test, Evaluation and Acceptance Plan (TEAP) covering Integration and Acceptance (SOS Elements).
  • Support Test and Acceptance across project portfolio.
  • Review of Test Plans for System Verification trials (as needed).
  • Support to Safety Case development (SME input on system integrations and function).

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Strength in Technical Requirements, Evaluation and Acceptance.
  • Strength in Application of Analytical Techniques.
  • Strength in Communicating and Influencing.
  • Prior experience of delivering or witnessing tests and trials for complex equipment.
  • Prior experience managing technical elements of contractor delivery.
  • Security Clearance - minimum of Security Check.
  • Sole UK National.
  • UK Drivers Licence.
  • Working Knowledge of GEAR processes and requirements.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience with technical fault finding.
  • Experience with industry standard data recording tool such as Wireshark and analysis tools.
  • Prior technical knowledge or experience of command and control systems, sensor systems.

Other Information

  • This is a Trials Engineering role and will require in person attendance, likely with overnight stays, at test/trial locations for the duration of trials. For planning purpose, it is reasonable to assume approximately one 2–3 week long trial every quarter, with occasional shorter duration trials. Typical trial locations include Thorney Island (Portsmouth Area), Bristol and Malvern.
  • Outside of trial commitment, requirement of 60% attendance at home site (3 days per week)
  • The suppliers for several systems are foreign contractors. The post holder must be comfortable working and leading in a multi-cultural environment, adjusting ways of working and communication style to get the best from a diverse team.

Candidate Eligibility

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, this role will not offer Visa sponsorship. Tier 2 – General visas cannot be accepted.
