Job description

Join our dynamic team at Wakefield Council as an Internal Audit Manager!

We're on the lookout for someone like you to play a crucial role in delivering a modern and professional Internal Audit service.

About the Role:

As the Audit Manager, you'll report to the Service Manager for Internal Audit and Risk (SMIAR). Your responsibilities will include managing a team of senior auditors, ensuring their development, and overseeing performance management. Additionally, you'll establish effective relationships with specific directorates, working closely with corporate directors and management teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct interaction with relevant corporate directors and their teams.
  • Utilise excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication.
  • Work proactively, understanding business needs, strategies, risks, and controls.
  • Develop a risk-based Internal Audit plan for assigned directorates.
  • Provide insightful and future-focused advice contributing to successful strategy delivery.
  • Act as a 'critical friend,' influencing and improving governance processes.
  • Champion good practices within directorates and across the Council.
  • Attend directorate management team meetings for quarterly update reporting.
  • Contribute to the delivery of audit work for external clients.

Qualifications/Training:

  • Full and active membership of a CCAB Body or qualified to practitioner/certified level of the IIA
  • Sound knowledge of Internal Auditing professional standards.
  • Demonstrable experience of establishing and maintaining good relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
