Job Purpose

  • New role to be created reporting into the (also newly created) Internal Audit Manager, ultimately supporting the Head of Internal Controls and Internal Audit with the delivery and operation of an ‘in-house’ Internal Audit function (currently outsourced to a third party – to be retained in a cosourcing arrangement to allow for specialist reviews).
  • Bringing Internal Audit ‘in-house’ will enable the risk-based audit plan, as agreed with the Audit & Risk Committee to be completed with RM own resource, which will additionally have the capacity to support a financial controls continuous assessment process.
  • The Internal Auditor role will take undertake work on the Internal Audit plan, ensuring reviews are completed efficiently, on-time and in accordance with scope. The Internal Auditor will be expected to work towards gaining a relevant professional qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, CIA).
Responsibilities:
Main Responsibilities
  • Support the Internal Audit Manager in the delivery of the internal audit plan for RM group. Complete and document controls testing on a range of risk-based audits covering financial and operational processes. Help identify opportunities for improvement where risks exist and contribute towards practical recommendations.
  • Contribute to the drafting of audit findings and audit reports for review by the Internal Audit Manager. Attend and participate in meetings with the Audit team where findings are presented.
  • Support the Internal Audit Manager in the delivery of a risk-based programme to validate the design and operating effectiveness of key internal financial controls, in support of a controls-based external audit.
  • The role falls within the scope of the apprenticeship (level 7) scheme, requiring 20% of time dedicated to professional study, working towards a relevant professional qualification.
Experience:
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • The role is expected to fall within scope of the apprenticeship level 7 scheme, and the individual will study towards a relevant professional qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA), gaining experience in the delivery of financial and operational internal audits.
  • They will learn to identifying and assessing risks within an area of scope, and design a programme of audit tests in order to form a view on the design and operating effectiveness of the relevant controls. They will work with the business (under supervision of the Internal Audit Manager) to efficiently test those controls, and where issues are identified, make and agree suggestions for improvement. Findings will be summarised within a report to senior management, to be delivered both in writing and verbally.
