Job description

The Role:

SmartestEnergy is entering a rapid phase of growth with its global ambition. To achieve these ambitions, it recognizes the execution of its business operations inevitably has both opportunities and risks. This role within the organization will support the maintenance of the enterprise risk and controls framework, identification and assessment of emerging risk and controls issues across operational activities, and support controls management across new strategic initiatives.

You will support the design and maintenance of process controls documentation across the business. You will support both the design and testing of operational effectiveness of the controls environment and provide assurance over risk mitigation activities across the business.

This role will support the Marubeni (parent company) with internal and J-SOX audits, performing the coordination role on behalf of SmartestEnergy and ensuring teams are clear on any audit findings / observations and remediation plans. Along with, conducting risk event investigations, coordinate the completion or reports identifying root causes, actions, and monitoring to successful resolution. You will provide insights into SmartestEnergy’s risk and controls environment and operational processes. As a risk and controls champion, the successful candidate will support improvement initiatives in governance, process, people skills and systems


What skills/experience do I need to be successful?


  • Excellent control experience and developing controls frameworks (e.g., SOX, COSO, ISO31000).
  • Ability to plan, design and execute controls testing across the business, ensuring good stakeholder engagement, collaborative agreement of issues and appropriate design of any remediation plans
  • Strong report writing skills and able to communicate with clarity to stakeholders
  • Sound communication skills for presentations, report writing and summarizing for executive teams’ key issues
  • Good working knowledge of energy trading and energy supply business; front- to-back office best practices
  • Track-record of successfully working in a high performing teams and dealing with complex scenarios
  • Able to take and maintain an independent approach and challenge where appropriate
  • Ideally, you would be from either energy industry an external audit firm or risk and control’s function
  • Operational knowledge of audit methods and practices to evaluate controls, ascertain key controls and evaluate business risks
  • Ability to apply risk/control knowledge and communicate data issues and control recommendations with transparency and integrity

Hybrid working typically means 2 days in the office location listed on this advert and 3 days working at home each week. Some occasional travel to our other offices may be required.
