Job description

How you'll make a difference

As the technical expert of asset management in South Gloucestershire, you will be designing, commissioning, constructing, diagnosing and repairing Traffic Signals. You will work on a spectrum of projects and prestigious schemes, involved with highway improvement schemes andexternal developer schemes, giving you variety and new challenges in your job role.

Traffic signals budget is approx £600k revenue plus £250k capital per year.

What will you be doing

  • On a daily basis you will manage a specialist technical service and provide technical advice as the subject matter expert to the organisation and to customers or partners.
  • You will be carrying out periodic visual inspections of Traffic Signals at SGC sites in accordance with the routine maintenance schedule, accurately recording the asset and repairing any faults as appropriate and ensure compliance with legislation and comply with guidance Safety at Streetworks and Road Works code of practice and best practice.
  • In the role you will attend, diagnose, and repair traffic signal faults to ensure our sites are operational, assure quality of repairs and update the asset management database.
  • You will be required to provide feedback for design and client functions, including specification, site trials, asset database, storage, new installations, and rechargeable works and make recommendations for kit, reduced function specifications for design and feedback for continuous improvement.
  • A key part of the role will be to ensure works are within safe working practices (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) carrying out dynamic risk assessments to ensure site and personal safety for workforce and public and overseeing equipment controllers of all types and carry out fault analysis.

What we need from you

  • You must hold a relevant degree or technical equivalent e.g. HNC, NVQ4 or have equivalent relevant experience and theoretical knowledge andbe working towards a professional/technical qualification and .
  • It is essential that you to have in depth working knowledge and experience of electrical installation and maintenance of electrical units in Traffic Signals and demonstrate confident, practical knowledge of traffic signal maintenance best practice, techniques and working methods.
  • We require you to have the ability to share your expert knowledge to a team and have experience of allocating and overseeing projects of work.
  • You will require knowledge of relevant legislation, procedures, policies e.g. health and safety with  knowledge and experience of safe working practices including H&S legislation as it relates to the operational tasks associated highway electrical installations
  • You will have an ability to identify problems and recommend workable and cost-effective solutions within time and resource constraints and able to complete documentation, answer technical queries and provide technical support to others sometimes working autonomously.
  • We require you to have experience of monitoring budgets within works and resource allocation.
  • It is desirable but not essential that you have experience of working for local authority.
