Exciting opportunity to grow your career as an Investment Accountant (Project Accountant) at National Grid! 

 

Supporting several large, complex, and varied Information Technology Projects you’ll contribute to the management information (MI), forecast and financial reporting on specific projects. 

 

You’ll build and maintain financial reports, detailing spends by project for the IT portfolio, ensuring approvals for projects are set up to accurately account for project costs in accordance with the approved IT investment proposal.  

 

Project costs, month end reporting, forecasting, budgeting, business plans, consolidation and reviewing processes, risks & opportunities are key parts of the role, and you’ll get plenty of opportunity to showcase your business partnering skills by liaising closely with senior stakeholders across the business pillars and our corporate entities.

 

We’d hope to see you in our Warwick office 2-3 days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!
 


What You’ll Do:
  • Ensure suitable financial reports are built and maintained, detailing spend by project for the IT portfolio.
  • Ensure that following approvals projects are set up in a timely manner to accurately account for project costs in accordance with the approved IT investment proposal papers.
  • Ensure that project costs are recognised in the books based on value of work done principles, where possible provided directly from our partners.
  • Provide accurate, timely and consistent month end reporting in accordance with Finance timetables to project managers and to programme delivery managers.
  • Run forecast, consolidation, and review processes to provide robust monthly forecasts for in-flight and unsanctioned projects, accurately allocated, and including risks & opportunities.  
  • Support processes to ensure that approved forecasts and annual budgets and business plans are input into local financial systems in an efficient and accurate way, in accordance with financial timetables.
  • Ensure that the regional financial controls in operation are efficient and effective and in conjunction with Shared Services teams ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Work in partnership with UK Shared Services accounting teams, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness of all management accounts, and reporting statements. 

 


What You’ll Have:
  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA) 
  • Experience of major accounting systems, budgeting and forecasting, financial performance reporting and engagement with business management, preferably in a large, international corporate setting.
  • Ability to talk to both finance and non-finance people, you can articulate and pitch financial information. 
  • Effective stakeholder management skills: you build strong working relationships and have had some exposure to business partnering. 
  • Organised and like to take ownership of things.
  • Proactive and a self-starter who can work well under own initiative and within wider team.
  • Good levels of Excel and data manipulation skills

What You'll Get:

£48,000 - £55,000 per annum - dependent on experience.
