Job description

The Resolution Foundation is looking for an individual to join the Resolution Ventures team to play a key role in the social investment activities of the Foundation focused on WorkerTech: technology and data-enabled start-ups seeking to improve the world of work for those in low-paid or precarious jobs.

Resolution Ventures backs innovative start-ups seeking to change the world of work for the better, and early-stage ventures seeking to improve the prospects of low-to-middle income Britain. Operating within the Foundation since 2020, we have built a portfolio of 13 early-stage ventures and an ecosystem of co-investors, partners and advisers to support their growth.

As we continue to develop this investment pipeline and plan future activities including a new/ second early-stage WorkerTech investment fund (due to close in 2024), we are seeking an additional member of the team to play a leading role in the investment analysis of ventures that meet our investment criteria.

What does the role involve?

Our Ventures activity spans social investment, creating communities and networks of ventures and stakeholders, and pioneering action-oriented research that bridges the gap between RF analysis and practical solutions.

Working with the Director of Ventures, the Ventures Manager and the Chair of the Resolution Foundation, the successful candidate will lead the process of investment analysis and due diligence, identify a pipeline of potential future investments, and increase reach and awareness of WorkerTech activity generally. They will also play a key role in the development of the new fund.

We initially plan to engage someone for around 0.5 - 1 day per week for an initial 3-month period, with the possibility of an extension. Longer term, we expect the role to develop into a part-time position of approx. 2-3 days per week. Flexibility is available for the right candidate however and we are happy to answer questions about your suitability and / or availability in advance, so please do get in touch before the application deadline if you have any queries.

What kind of person are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have significant experience of early-stage investment and business expertise including excellent financial and commercial analysis skills. They will be expected to lead the investment process and due diligence for new investments and make key investment recommendations as well as providing portfolio support to current investments. A strong interest in good work is required, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A passion for creating impact, and the ability to play a leading role in creating the new early-stage WorkerTech investment fund is also essential.

What is the organisational culture?

The Foundation prides itself on analytical rigour, and we strive to achieve standards of excellence in all our work. This commitment is matched by dedication to our core purpose, working to improve the living standards of those on low-to-middle incomes. These twin pillars of rigour and purpose inform our culture and underpin everything we do.

The Foundation is a small team and staff members support each other and share cross-organisational work in addition to fulfilling individual responsibilities. We offer a competitive benefits package and the opportunity to join us at an exciting time in our development as we build on success and look

to maximise the impact of our Economy 2030 Inquiry and expand our social investment work. The Foundation's office is based in Westminster with home working available two days per week. We also have a range of equality, diversity, inclusivity and family-friendly policies and practices.
