About the team


The International Office of the General Counsel (IOGC) is a growing and high-performing in-house legal team with personnel based in five countries. The team provides legal advice on a wide variety of key strategic matters and legal, regulatory and reputational issues and risks, and also supports the execution of critical business decisions made by KPMGI.


Role Summary


KPMG is now a digital business, and as a result, technology enables everything it does and requires KPMG to continue to transform with technology in support of its Growth and Trust agenda. This role is a part of the International Office of the General Counsel (IOGC) and sits in the IP, Technology and Data sub-group. It focuses on providing paralegal support on a variety of legal projects supported by IOGC’s IP, Technology and Data sub-group, which include supporting or driving:

  • Project management for strategic projects focused on IP, Technology and Data. We expect this work will include managing specific workflows, task lists, status updates, timing, and overall project organization for the legal team members.
  • Projects related to the internal processes of the IP, Technology and Data sub-group within IOGC as well as processes where IOGC integrates into the processes of other Global functions.
  • The privacy and information protection aspects of the technology solution review process by completing privacy impact assessments of technology solutions used or developed by KPMG International or that are hosted or accessed on KPMG International infrastructure; and
  • Work related to KPMG’s non-trademark intellectual property portfolio, including supporting filings and maintaining inventory.

The person in this role will execute their responsibilities under the overall supervision of an Associate General Counsel in IOGC or another senior lawyer within IOGC.


Key Accountabilities


Project Support:

  • Provide project management and/or support for strategic projects focused on IP, Technology and Data.
  • Manage and/or support projects related to the internal processes of the IP, Technology and Data sub-group within IOGC as well as processes where IOGC integrates into the processes of other Global functions.
  • Manage specific workflows, task lists, status updates, timing, and overall project organization for legal team members of the IP, Technology and Data sub-group within IOGC.
  • Provide project management support for key IOGC initiatives.
  • Assist with the legal due diligence.


Technology Solutions:

  • Manage the intake and coordinate legal technology assessments, including privacy impact assessments, and contract reviews.
  • Ensure intake forms contain the information required for a thorough review, coordinate with other KPMGI groups as required, and track relevant information.
  • Supports privacy attorneys on privacy aspects of technology solution and contract reviews.
  • Guide KPMGI solution owners and risk management teams on legal technology solution review processes.
  • Gather relevant information from IT and business project teams and review, assess, and document findings against privacy and other requirements under the supervision of IOGC attorneys.
  • Performs work related to KPMG’s non-trademark intellectual property portfolio, including supporting filings and maintaining inventory


Logistical Support:

  • Provide logistical support for technology review and contracting processes including publication, emails, updating trackers, maintaining standard legal documentation/templates, reporting and updating Sharepoint with appropriate documents.
  • Maintaining functional mailboxes related to data privacy and information protection work of the IP, Technology and Data sub-group.
  • Managing, updating, and assisting in automating risk analysis processes through use of technology, including OneTrust.
  • Actively coordinating between IOGC and various Global business functions, including Global Procurement, as well as member firms’ privacy liaisons.


Experience & knowledge


  • Minimum five years of work experience, preferably in a professional services environment.
  • Experience in taking the day-to-day lead with minimal supervision on less complex/less strategically significant matters.
  • Experience in quickly absorbing and processing a large amount of information in respect of complex issues with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a large volume of matters with competing deadlines and different internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in working on cross border matters and well-developed cultural sensitivity to enable engagement with people at all levels and with diverse backgrounds.
  • Some knowledge and developing awareness of global business, geopolitical, legal, regulatory and technology issues/trends which may be relevant to KPMG.
  • Knowledge of legal concepts and principles relating to IP, Technology and Data strongly preferred, including IP and privacy issues and regulations regarding technology.
  • Experience with technology tools for workflows/ dashboards / reporting. Experience with OneTrust and/or Coupa is a plus.
  • Experience in operational management.
  • Extensive and consistent experience in delivering complex projects throughout lifecycle.

  • Ability to understand service workflows, champion supporting tools, and supports implementation and adoption by internal stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of and advanced experience with software applications (Excel, MS Office suite, MS collaboration tools such as Teams).
  • Ability to identify issues that require advice from one of IOGC’s experienced lawyers or external counsel.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
  • Strong administrative and project management capabilities.
  • Ability to build relationships, work collaboratively and share knowledge, with the rest of the IOGC team and the wider KPMGI community.
