SalaryOur client, a well-established and recognised Financial Services organisation located in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, is actively seeking a dedicated IT Infrastructure Engineer to join their team and provide essential support to their business operations. The role not only involves current infrastructure maintenance but also offers the prospect of evolving into a Senior position as responsibilities and team size expand.
We are in search of an experienced IT professional capable of supporting the client's existing IT infrastructure, encompassing Servers, desktops, and core equipment. Responsibilities include managing end users, customers, and internal support, operating within a MS Windows Server environment. Tasks involve running diagnostic tools, conducting comparative analyses, communicating with customers, compiling information, repairing hardware and software, and deploying new systems. The ideal candidate must possess comprehensive knowledge of MS Windows support, networks, and administration, demonstrating the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate will work with a diverse range of technologies, collaborating closely with business stakeholders and eventually assuming ownership of small IT infrastructure projects. Core skills required include expertise in Microsoft Windows Administration (Windows 2003 - 2019), Microsoft Cloud Portfolio (Azure, O365, Teams, OneDrive), Microsoft Windows Desktop Administration (Windows 7 - 10), Microsoft Active Directory, VMware vSphere, Storage Area Network (SAN) concepts, Enterprise Backup Solutions, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity, Load Balancing Technologies, Networking Concepts (Cisco Switches & Palo Alto Firewalls), and monitoring/alerting technologies (Splunk, Netcrunch).
Additionally, proficiency in Microsoft Server Application products, incident management (LANDesk Management Suite preferred), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), VPN Solutions, Scripting (PowerShell), and formal Service Management Methodologies (ITIL) is desired. The candidate should ideally show enthusiasm for gaining project/service management skills.
The client's infrastructure is intricate, utilizing various technologies, making this role an excellent opportunity for someone eager to expand their technical skill set. While team leadership experience is advantageous, it is not mandatory. The role demands high energy, enthusiasm, and commitment, as it involves a brand-new position requiring flexibility and creative thinking to contribute significantly to service excellence. Successful candidates must be adept at building and maintaining relationships across all levels of the business.
This role presents a fantastic opportunity for career progression to a Management or Architecture role, with plans to grow the infrastructure support team in the next 6-12 months.
