Job description

Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR, Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. We also have a specialised function – Barratt Partnerships.
 
While the work varies from team to team, our key requirements don’t: you must be well organised, extremely helpful and resourceful, and able to use your initiative. You’ll understand that what you do is important, and impacts on your team, the department, and the wider business.
 
Reporting to the IT Portfolio Delivery Manager, the IT Project Manager is responsible for managing the delivery of IT infrastructure projects and/ or the IT workstreams of Business Change projects and programmes.
 
You will be expected to:
  • Agree scope, produce delivery plans and track status of allocated projects/ workstreams.
  • Produce weekly status updates from the PMO toolset and distribute to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Facilitate project/ workstream stakeholder update meetings and SteerCo meetings where required.
  • Ensure all projects/ workstreams follow the Barratt Change Delivery Framework to effectively deliver utilising a best practice approach to project management, ensuring we have the appropriate level of governance in place for the level change being managed.
  • Ensure that all projects/ workstreams are completed to the quality and standards implemented by the IT Solution Delivery Team.
  • Manage project/ workstream budgets and report on variances where required.
  • Maintain project/ workstream RAID Registers and manage all risks, issues actions and decisions.
  • Manage the end-to-end project delivery lifecycle, including any escalations due to deviation from scope, quality, costs or benefits.
  • Prepare and maintain project/ workstream plans and publish to the relevant stakeholders as required.
  • Co-ordinate project/ workstream resources, both internal and external to Barratt, in-line with the wider Group IT and Business Change teams.
  • Assist with scoping for new projects, including production of detailed plans for the Discovery and Initiate phases, scope options, likely costs and delivery timescales.
  • Escalate project/ workstream related issues in a timely manner to the IT Portfolio Delivery Manager, where required.

To be successful in the role, we are looking for:
  • Strong and visible team leadership skills.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of leading IT projects/ workstreams and consistently delivering high-quality solutions within large, complex and distributed organisations such as Barratt.
  • Experience within the construction sector would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Strong academic record, most likely with graduate level education, and should hold the relevant project management qualifications (e.g. Prince2, APM or equivalent).
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, to include:
    • Strong written and verbal communication ability,
    • Consultancy skills (e.g. workshop facilitation, presentation skills, driving business effectiveness, change management, strategic thinking and leveraging IT solutions to deliver business benefit),
    • Influencing skills (e.g. stakeholder management, negotiation skills and assertiveness).
  • Strong analytical capability.
  • In-depth understanding of the IT solution delivery lifecycle and different solution delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid etc).
  • Specific experience in co-ordinating project management activities across disparate supply chains.
  • A good understanding of ITIL practices in the context of IT solution delivery, service transition and post-delivery operations.
  • Strong understanding of IT solution delivery best practices including SCM, build pipeline configuration and processes, code quality and testing methodologies.
  • Experienced in working closely with Product Owners, Senior Managers and other delivery teams, with demonstrable understanding of collaborating to analyse, design, develop, test and implement complex IT solutions.
  • Ability to identify, communicate and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to establish, develop and maintain effective relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders up to Head of Department level.
  • Ability to translate technical details into language easily understood by business stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan and organise effectively, whilst taking the initiative within agreed parameters.
  • Ability to read and comprehend system-level documents including technical specifications, database schemas and data dictionaries.
  • Knowledge of applications and technologies utilised within the construction sector would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-moving IT landscape and keep pace with latest thinking and new technologies.
  • A passion for project delivery and for helping their team to deliver high quality outcomes.
  • An analytical mind capable of managing numerous information sources and providing data analysis reports to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong customer focus – Able to meet the demands of senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills – Providing verbal and written communication that is outstanding to both their team and senior stakeholders, as well as other colleagues.
  • Flexible and adaptable – Capable of changing direction where required and showing flexibility to meet new demands.
  • A high degree of personal impact, positivity, drive, commitment and desire to achieve targets.
