The Role
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As an IT Solutions Technician Apprentice, you will play a pivotal role in assisting the IT infrastructure to support around 2,500 users in a multi-network environment.
The apprentice will be encouraged to work in a variety of environments, learning new skills with support from a wealth of experienced Engineers, Analysts, Technicians and Specialists.
Aside from the Core Opportunity to Develop, implement and maintain complete IT solutions such as networks, operating systems and applications, the apprentice will also be required to then choose one of two options; either the Software (undertake activities in the area of applications and supporting components such as databases.) or Hardware (undertake activities in the area of the infrastructure aspects of solutions such as servers, Storage and networks) path.
Under the supervision of the Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions groups leads in IT Operations, Data Centre (DC) Management and Systems, the apprentice will be learn to:
- Work through IT Service desk support requests; Incident support and troubleshooting of any reported issues raised by users.
- Work with the IT technical coordinator to ensure project job schedules are maintained to Manage project portfolios that are attached to the infrastructure teams.
- Liaise with the IT operations Team on data centre activities.
- Working with the DC Manager to ensure stock levels for cable, labels, cable ties, spares, tools etc are at acceptable levels.
- Perform inventory checks when the equipment arrives, document serial numbers, asset tags and device names, upload physical asset information Asset manager for all devices.
- Apply a solution lifecycle framework that includes requirements gathering, solution development, testing, implementation and ongoing support.
- Demonstrate an understanding of different types of network devices, routers and switches, their relationship to the stack model and the use of firewalls.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Complete national academic qualification as defined by the apprenticeship training standard; IT Solutions Technician / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education
- Attend designated training provider, develop and attain a good knowledge of procurement skills.
- Represent the UKAEA Organisation and attend external outreach and careers events.
