Role Description

We are currently seeking an IT Systems Engineer who will be based in our North West of England office. This is a varied role that requires a strong team player with a diverse range of IT skills and disciplines.

Essential attributes for this position include a proactive and dynamic approach to IT project delivery, expertise in Cyber Security, and a keen enthusiasm for continuous learning and self-improvement.

Primary duties and responsibilities of the role are:

• Designing, implementing, and documenting IT and Cyber Security projects.
• Identifying issues for continuous service improvement.
• Communicating technical concepts effectively to non-technical audiences.
• Acting as an escalation point for the service desk for both customer and internal systems.
• Providing technical advice, knowledge sharing, and ticket recommendations.
• Conducting testing and evaluations of new IT systems.
• Offering pre-sales support and contributing to technical solution design.
• Assisting in certification and compliance processes (ISO27001, Cyber Essentials).
• Collaborating with the Technical Director and Service Desk Manager to ensure SLA compliance and customer satisfaction.
• Meeting established targets and personal objectives.
• Acting as a mentor to the technical services team.

About You

Technology Requirements:

• Proficiency in Windows Server and associated technologies (e.g. Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, DFS, NPS).
• Expertise in VMware and Hyper-V virtualisation.
• Understanding of security solutions (e.g. firewall policies, VPN, IPS, filtering, EPDR), with exposure to WatchGuard and Cisco security platforms.
• Skills in LAN/WAN technologies, with emphasis on switching and routing on Cisco, Juniper, and HP equipment.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365.
• Experience in Active Directory administration, Group Policy, scripting, and remote tools.
• Familiarity with iSCSI SANs.
• Knowledge of working and deploying solutions in cloud platforms (e.g. Azure and AWS).

General Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years working in a similar role.
• Ability to multitask in fast-paced settings.
• Excellent customer service and empathy skills.
• Ability to work alone and as part of a team.
• Fluency in English (CEFR C2) with strong written and verbal communication.
• Valid full, clean driving license and flexibility to work remotely.
• Valid DBS certification.

“Nice to Have” Requirements

• Experience in backup, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity, ideally with the VEEAM platform.
• Familiarity with SQL technologies.
• Experience with Linux systems.
• Industry certifications such as Microsoft (MCP, MCSE), Cisco (CCNA, CCNP), CompTIA (Security+, Network+, Server+).
