IT Systems and Security Manager, Exeter

Up to £50k DOE

This is a brand-new role and as their new IT Systems and Security Manager you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the organisations information technology systems whilst ensuring the security and integrity of the company’s data and technology assets. The role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership acumen, and strategic thinking to formulate and implement effective systems and security policies.


Responsibilities of the IT Systems and Security Manager include:

  • System administration - Supervise the installation, configuration, and maintenance of systems, networks, servers, and infrastructure components and manage relationships with vendors and service providers.
  • Security management - Develop, implement, and enforce robust security procedures to safeguard computer systems, networks, and data and conduct periodic security audits and vulnerability assessments.
  • Incident response - Develop and uphold an incident response plan to promptly address security breaches or system failures and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to investigate and resolve incidents.
  • Problem management – analysis of incident data and reports to identify recurring issues and patterns.
  • Team Leadership – lead and mentor application specialists, providing guidance and support and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.


To thrive in the IT Systems and Security Manager role you should have:

  • in-depth knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux etc)
  • experience of the Azure cloud computing platform (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Power Automate)
  • experience migrating and managing services in the cloud
  • proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash) to automate routing tasks
  • experience with network and firewall configuration/management
  • proficiency in cybersecurity principles and best practices
  • experience in database administration, optimisation and troubleshooting
  • understanding and application of ITIL processes
  • excellent communication skills
