WHAT TO EXPECT
This is a Jaguar Land Rover Materiality Management level role in Creative, with responsibility and focus on developing the Brand Pillar of Jaguar and all derivatives across Core and Halo from creation through to launch. Creating the most desirable, relevant, and exceptional client experiences, underpinning the Reimagine Strategy.
As a recognised expert in the Materiality (Colour, Material, Finish) field the ideal candidate needs a proven track record of being able to engage with and influence others. Creatively lead, manage, and develop both people and Materiality design content and collaborating at multiple levels with internal and external customers. The candidate will need to be open and flexible to agile ways of working if the needs of the business change. With focus on more sustainable and responsible material initiatives and methods of make.
The position reports to the Materiality Jaguar Senior Design Manager. Collaborating closely with the Senior Manager in the creation and development of world class Materiality Design. Responsible for creative exploration, design and development of sustainable modern luxury materials and experiences for both the interior and exterior of Jaguar vehicles.
Materiality Design Organisation (CMF) is a specialist centre of creative expertise. With focus on a holistic materials-led design approach. Challenging how we design and make things to enable innovation for a responsible and sustainable future.
The Materiality organisation is made up of multi-disciplinary professionals that come from a wide range of different design, engineering and material science backgrounds from automotive and analogous industries. This multi-discipline collective are experts in all aspects of Materiality Design.
Collaborating closely with all creative teams across the design function, Materiality is integral to the development of digital and physical concepts and designs, providing critical inputs, intelligence, and guidance for use internally and externally throughout the end-to-end design process.
Material technologies include exterior and interior paint, metals, polymers, films, composites, textiles, coated textiles, polymeric foils, leathers, biomaterials, details, and embellishments with a focus on circular, sustainable and responsible material initiatives, and methods of making.
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
PROGRAMS / PROJECTS
  • Guides and lead Materiality programs. From strategy creation and ideation through to production realisation and launch. Ensuring progress at the appropriate pace driving and delivering to design and business requirements.
  • Manages and executes the agreed design direction of a project. Influencing a project with a high degree of creativity as well as pragmatic solutions.
  • Drives collaboration with program and purchasing to align cost and feasibility issues to achieve customer satisfaction and the best aesthetic solutions.
  • Strong and clear communication to align on/or escalate items to senior design team.
  • Anticipating future program requirements and prioritising design activities accordingly.
  • Overseas the requirements and delivery of Materiality models/ properties and materiality contribution to interior and exterior model builds in line with model build process.
  • Support PR activities as it relates to program work.
  • Support approvals of internal design gateways, approve Materiality intent documentation released to the wider business.

PEOPLE
  • Workload management of the team, including work prioritisation, escalation, and support.
  • People performance management, developing team skillsets, engaging in creator conversations for individuals.
  • Shares best practice with the team and offers direction with a coaching style as appropriate.
  • Mentor and coach to others (both Junior and Senior) in Design projects and methods.

BRAND & STRATEGY
  • Works closely with Materiality Brand Design Manager to co-create and steer the Materiality of the Jaguar Design pillar.
  • Influences and feeds Off-cycle and commodity strategy with future Jaguar program needs. Understanding of White space seed projects, ensures cohesive collaboration with whitespace.
  • Initiates competitor and analogues industry benchmarking. Collaborates with external suppliers.
  • Stays up to date with customer mindset and landscape shifts and material technologies that identify new ideas for next generation vehicles for the Jaguar Pillar.
  • Working to collaborate with current and new supplier base, guides designers on best practices for engaging with these networks.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Essential:
  • Evidence of previous experience in leading and guiding Materiality designers, leading Materiality program level strategy and delivering programs across creation and realisation.
  • Evidence of instigating and driving key material developments and finding pragmatic creative solutions is required, as well as knowledge of the current production process.
  • Relevant design degree demonstrating excellent creative and presentation skills.
  • High knowledge of automotive materials (or analogous product industry) processes and suppliers with a high degree of competitor awareness.
  • Experience with leading / guiding creative and strategic bodies of work and Program projects.
  • Broad understanding of the global design world (with understanding of analogous industries).
  • Available to travel both within the UK and globally if required.
  • Confident team leader with proven coaching and mentoring skills.
  • The position is required to physically work on site at Gaydon Jaguar Land Rover Studios or at other studios around the world if necessary. Role can have a level of hybrid flexible working as agreed with manager and in line with project requirements.
  • The candidate will need to be open and flexible to agile ways of working, to represent Materiality and support the program delivery needs, content generation, meetings, and presentations.
