About the role

In this role based in Bratislava at Group Economic and Sigma Research, you will actively contribute to developing the baseline views and forecasts on the European economic outlook as well as producing macroEconomic Analysis relevant for insurance markets in Europe. The role is an excellent stepping-stone within the company and as such, you should expect a dynamic environment and be able to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and autonomy in your daily work.

Key tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Work with various experienced economists to analyse and forecast key macroeconomic variables for European countries (e.g. GDP growth, CPI inflation, interest rates, central bank policy, fiscal policy). This includes monitoring and assessing broader economic, political, and financial market developments to support economic scenario analysis, as well as longer-term structural macro theme identification.
  • Develop and improve models and data monitoring tools to further strengthen the team's macroEconomic Analysis
  • Support Swiss Re's thought leadership through conducting literature reviews, data analysis and written contributions to publications (e.g. Swiss Re's European Economic Outlook quarterly report, Global Economic and Financial Risk Insights, and Economic Insights)
  • Support the Group Chief Economist and European Chief Economist in various tasks, including writing background notes and preparing high-quality visually appealing presentations for external client outreach, as well as some other administrative tasks

About the team

The European Economics team is a sub-team within the Group Economic & Sigma Research (GESR) department and is part of the Swiss Re Institute. The broader GESR department is responsible for analysing and forecasting the global macroeconomic and insurance market environment. GESR holds a crucial role in steering Swiss Re's capital allocation and drives thought leadership on topics of strategic importance (e.g. through the "sigma" publication series). The department is located across geographies, is highly visible and interacts with a wide variety of key partners and decision makers across Swiss Re and externally.

About you

You should expect a dynamic environment and be able to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and autonomy in your daily work. You are mature and proactive with a "can do" attitude; showing a high degree of own initiative. You have an ability to work under tight timelines as well as multi-task different deadlines and run work collaborations across various stakeholders simultaneously.

Essentials:

  • Completed university degree in Economics or Finance, ideally at Master level as well as some work experience in the Economics/finance area
  • Strong interest and passion for macroeconomics, including motivation for continuous learning and to further grow skills in macroEconomic Analysis
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is required
  • Strong data and analytical skills
  • Ability to break down, communicate and visualize often complex concepts in an easy and digestible way. Both written and verbal communication skills are excellent in English

Nice to haves:

Econometric and programming skills in one of the major statistical softwares/programming languages (R, Stata, Matlab, Python) is a distinct advantage

The minimum gross monthly base salary for this role is 1800 EUR full time. Our final offer to you will be set up fairly, considering the skills and experience that you bring to the Swiss Re Group.
