Junior Planning Engineer
Location: Waterbeach, Cambs
Hours: 0800 - 16.30 Mon - Thurs, 08.00 - 13.00 Friday
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: GBP23-30k depending on experience
This role would suit someone who has an A level in Maths and English or an NVQ in Engineering who is looking for their first role and wants to learn, grow and develop in a business or someone who has previous planning experience, who is analytical and likes working with data but wants to use the skills in a challenging role. Full training will be provided.
Purpose: The Planning Engineer will play a crucial role in providing support to Project Managers and Production Staff in the manufacturing of composite products for the Aerospace, Automotive, Marine, and additional industries. The primary focus is on ensuring efficient project execution within specified timescales and budget constraints.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Management:
- Administer customer design data through effective data transfer and storage in relevant project folders.
Assembly Planning:
- Identify top-level and sub-assembly requirements, and generate manufacturing plans.
- Work with customer specifications to identify raw material, bought-out items, sub-contracted items, and resource requirements for the production of the first-off part and subsequent production runs.
Tooling Support:
- Identify and support the manufacture of all tooling requirements, including mould tools, CNC fixtures, assembly fixtures, and templates.
Sub-contract Manufacturing:
- Control data transfer for sub-contract manufacturing activities.
Documentation:
- Generate shop floor manufacturing Job Cards, incorporating process instructions and Bill of Materials (BOM) items.
- Create Process & Layup Instruction documents for various manufacturing methods.
- Generate layup kits for kit cutters.
Design Support:
- Identify and oversee the manufacture of composite inserts, such as rigid foam or aluminum inserts, requiring CAD design.
Technical Support:
- Provide technical support to the shop floor throughout the manufacturing process.
- Collaborate with the Estimating team during bid stages.
Key Performance Measures:
- Evaluate project performance against set milestones and objectives.
- Monitor engineering metrics to ensure efficiency and quality.
Knowledge, Education, Skills, and Experience:
Knowledge:
- Competent in MS Office software.
- CAD knowledge in Solidworks or Catia (advantageous).
Education:
- Qualification in an engineering or scientific discipline or A Level in Maths and English
Skills:
- Highly organised with excellent time management skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Passion and a thirst to learn from the best.
- Initiative and self motivated to grow and learn.
