Job description

We have a great opportunity for a Kitchen Assistant to join a Catering Department, working as part of a team of 5 under the direction of the Chef Manager.

Working 35 Weeks per Annum / 40 hours per week

Your duties will be to ensure the kitchen is clean and operational, supporting the preparation of meals, snacks and refreshments on a daily basis and for all annual events.

You must be able to work to the highest hygiene standards, with good attention to detail, be physically fit and have the ability to work as part of a team.

The kitchen is a busy and pressurised environment so working efficiently with a flexible approach is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring food preparation equipment, floors and other kitchen tools and areas are kept clean and hygienic
  • Washing utensils/dishes/equipment, ensuring they are stored appropriately
  • Sorting/storing/distributing ingredients
  • Ensuring recycling of food and packaging waste is carried out
  • Disposing of rubbish
  • Checking hand wash soap and blue paper towels are stocked up in dispensers
  • Clearing away food from and washing down servery
  • Assisting chefs with vegetable preparation
  • Working as efficiently and tidily as possible on all tasks
  • Working as part of a team on a smooth running rota, ensuring the Chef Manager is given as much notice as possible of any requests for change or cover. Where staff are granted changes to shifts, or require others to cover for them, you will be expected to make this time up by covering shifts yourself
  • Working closely with other members of the team, covering or assisting with each other's tasks when necessary and instructed to do so
  • Working to high professional and food hygiene/safety standards and reporting to the Head Chef or Chef Manager should you have any concerns in this area, as well as concerns over operation or safety of kitchen equipment/machinery
  • Ensuring all general Health & Safety standards are met

Special Requirements:

  • A good work ethic / common sense
  • A willingness and aptitude to undertake training, applying the necessary standards at work
  • Physically fit, capable, flexible and adaptable
  • Working to the highest quality standards and with good attention to detail
  • Good people skills, friendly and with the ability to work well as part of a team
  • Good personal presentation
  • Excellent customer service skills

Salary : 10.50 - 11.00 per Hour

(together with holiday pay etc., this amounts to approx. 19K per Annum

The successful Applicant will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
