The Catering Team are involved in every area of the charity.  Not only providing the very best meals to our patients and their families, but also the staff and volunteers who give the care and support.  It doesn’t end there, our fundraising team put on events that need a broad spectrum of catering.

As Kitchen Porter your role will be to undertake a range of cleaning and catering activities e.g. basic food preparation, cleaning and washing up, etc. that complies with all food hygiene requirements for staff, patients and visitors to St Michael’s Hospice.Job Description and Person SpecificationJob Title: Kitchen Porter

Hours: 30hours/week, Rota based, Part time

Department: Facilities

Location: St Michael’s Hospice, Bartestree

Reports to: Catering Manager

Responsible for: N/A

Job Purpose: To undertake a range of cleaning and catering activities e.g. basic food preparation, cleaning and washing up, etc. that complies with all food hygiene requirements for staff, patients and visitors to St Michael’s Hospice.

Responsibility Areas:
Catering and Cleaning
Basic food preparation in accordance with menus and under the direction of the Catering Manager and Chefs.

Deliver a high standard of customer service at all times.

Monitor food wastage.

Clean and sanitize all chillers, refrigerators, freezers and storage areas and ensure that these are clean and well-organized.

Maintain, clean and sanitise all kitchen and cooking areas, store rooms, and catering equipment to ensure that all is kept in a clean and safe condition.

Collect and wash up all dirty kitchen dishes, utensils and cooking equipment.

Appropriately storing all washed kitchen equipment etc

Sweep and mop all kitchen areas, empty all rubbish bins.

Ensure that all stock levels are maintained and replenished in the Café and all satellite kitchens, staffrooms etc.

Unpacking any food and equipment deliveries.

Communication
Ensure that hospice safeguarding procedures are followed.

Attend team meetings.

Legislative Compliance
Ensure food hygiene and dietary standards are consistently met and maintained in accordance with current legislative requirements.

Ensure compliance with all Hospice policies and procedures.

Ensure compliance with all statutory and environmental health regulations.

Ensure that General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is adhered to in all areas.

Participate in all regular Fire and H&S checks.

Property Maintenance
Monitor and communicate any maintenance issues to the Catering Manager.

Ensure that all equipment is safe to use and escalate problems to the Catering Manager.

Administer the rules of good housekeeping in all areas.
