Job description

We are seeking an entrepreneurial individual to lead the translation of new materials discoveries into real-life applications and exploit our recent developments with autonomous mobile robotic chemists. We are a large group of over 60 researchers led by Professor Andrew Cooper FRS based in the Materials Innovation Factory in Liverpool. The post will involve activities such as protecting intellectual property, scouting for commercial opportunities, and liaising with existing and prospective industrial collaborators. The successful candidate will also contribute to the preparation of grant applications focused on Knowledge Exchange and commercial development.
You should have a PhD in a relevant discipline (Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science) and a strong interest in functional MATERIALS AND/or robotics. A key success metric will be to establish new collaborations with industry in the areas covered by our group. Excellent communication skills (both interpersonal and written) are essential, and applicants should provide an engaging, 2-page written career summary as part of their application.
The post is to cover a period of maternity leave that is available from 1 March 2024 up to 28 February 2025.
Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto GRADE 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
This post would also be an ideal secondment opportunity for an internal candidate, with an anticipated start date of March 2024 and would be available for up to 12 months. You should have the approval of your line manager before applying.
