Role - Lead Auditor
Location- Derby or Long Marston- Flexible on location as there will be a lot of UK site travel for audits
Salary- Up to 56k + up to 10% performance bonus
Your role as a Lead Auditor:
Our client specialises in asset management of all types of railway rolling stock and associated equipment. They hold awards for being one of the best companies to work for and they truly value their employees and have a low staff turnover. This role is now live due to the current candidate retiring.
They have sites In Derby, London and Long Martson and can be flexible with where you are based as the role will involve a lot of UK site travel to complete audits. Some oversees travel may be required.
Please note- you must have rail experience for this role.
Your duties and responsibilities as a Lead Auditor:
- Site travel across UK to complete audits
- Responsible for performing external audits and in-process inspections at TOCs and suppliers
- To lead / participate in preliminary assessments, audits, QA project work and follow-up visits to close Corrective Action Requests (CARs)
- To produce high quality audit reports as determined by each audit and identify required actions and / or good working practices at Train Operating Companies (TOCs), Freight Operating Companies (FOCs) and suppliers
- Obtain and review the remit for each audit from the internal stakeholders and support them in generating this scope as required
- To support the Audit Manager with regards to the tendering, negotiating and procurement of audit services from third party providers on the occasions where the organisation cannot resource this internally
- Represent the company in a professional manner at supplier locations. For example, during an audit, at an audit close out meeting, or at ad-hoc meetings to discuss and support improvement in the supplier's quality management systems
- To assist, wherever possible, on matters relating to Quality Management System (QMS) and Safety Management System (SMS), particularly where audits have detected weaknesses or highlighted areas of improvement
- Support and develop companies overall Business Management System as required
- Support RISAS accreditation and participate during re-accreditation audits as required
- Act as subject matter expert on the IT audit fieldwork system
- Support continuous improvement activities at Long Marston site as required
To be successful in your role, you should have the following skills and experience:
- Registered Lead Auditor with experience in rail / rolling stock equipment
- Educated to Degree level or HNC/HND in an engineering discipline or have relevant industry experience
- Practical experience in a rail depot, overhaul works, or similar manufacturing environment
- Proven ability to audit process compliance and identify opportunities for process improvement
- Ability to plan effectively, oversee and manage tasks and external suppliers
- Ability to work with auditees when deficiencies have been identified, playing a key role in developing them to an acceptable standard
- An effective communicator with the ability to interact and build rapport with people at all levels externally and internally
- Self-sufficient and self-motivated
- Ability to assess vehicle condition, reporting any significant defects, whilst reviewing routine exam maintenance (desirable)
- Experience of the operation of railways (desirable)
- A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Quality systems, including ISO 9001:2015
- Knowledge of build, inspection, test, and maintenance processes within rail industry or similar manufacturing environment
- Organised, methodical approach with attention to detail
- A knowledge and understanding of RISAS (desirable)
- Computer literate with ability to use MS applications. Familiarity with Oracle E-Business Suite would be an advantage but not essential
- Excellent report writing skills to deliver an articulate output of audits and inspections
- Working knowledge of quality management systems e.g. ISO 9001 and RISAS
- Knowledge of UK rail traction and rolling stock (desirable)
