Job Title: Lead Engineer

Location: Birmingham

Purpose of the Job:

As the Lead Engineer reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the comprehensive coordination and execution of all engineering disciplines for medium-voltage and high-voltage substation projects. This includes Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) and Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation projects, Rail, Infrastructure, Data Center, and Wind offshore & onshore up to the 400 kV range. Emphasizing project safety, cost, quality, and reliability, your role will involve providing technical leadership and coordination for all engineering activities related to EHV/HV substation projects.

Key Areas of Responsibility (KARs):

• Deliver projects and assignments as set by the Engineering Manager in annual targets.
• Manage and lead all engineering activities, both in-house and outsourced, during proposal, design, and construction stages of substation projects.
• Support proposal efforts with innovation, cost-saving ideas, and value-added solutions.
• Conduct on-site assessments of existing equipment in "brown field" substation projects.
• Provide expertise and support for validating sub-contractor bids and negotiating sub-contracts.
• Conform bid packages with customer project documents by reviewing RFPs/RFQs and Linxon proposals.
• Develop design criteria, document deliverables, and lead the development of substation design packages.
• Ensure compliance with safety requirements and clearances as per CDM and applicable standards.

Experience Required:

• Minimum 12 to 15 years of substation engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of substation design disciplines, including primary, secondary, and civils.
• Experience in engineering leadership and preparation/management of various substation design aspects.
• Experience as a Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) / Lead Contractor Design Approval Engineer (LCDAE) is advantageous.
• Chartered Engineer (through IET) status or working towards it is desirable.
