Lead Engineer - Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description Summary
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will provide technical solutions in the form of steam turbines and condensers for the purpose of power generation or propulsion. This is done through the execution of design contracts as well as life time management through build, assembly, commissioning and test. Additionally, as part of the Design Engineering team you will provide technical support to the installed units during outages for service and problem resolution on operational issues.
Job Description
Main responsibilities:

• Layout design using Catia V5 of turbine rotors, casings, glands, bearings, valves, pedestals, instrumentation, interfaces.
• Basic stress analysis involving hand calculations or spreadsheets.
• Design for manufacturing (casting, forging, fabrication) and assembly.
• Specify the essential requirements for the production of manufacturing and assembly documentation.
• Understand rotating equipment's safe operation, installation and maintenance needs.
• Report writing, drawing checking, presentation material.
• Design reviews, customer presentations and meetings.

Basic qualifications:

• Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5 plus years of Design Engineering.
• Good knowledge of Catia v.5
• Technical knowledge of rotating equipment, turbines preferable

Desired qualifications:

• Able to work as part of a multi-disciplined team.
• Can commit to and keep tight deadlines.
• Strong oral and written communication.

This work is undertaken with UK Defence customers which will require any individual applying for the role to hold or be capable of getting SC Level clearance, be a British Citizen and working or have residency in the UK for a minimum of 5 years. Applicants not cleared will not be accepted into the business until this clearance is provided. Dual passport holders are acceptable if the second country is approved by the vetting authority.
