A quick look at the role.
The role holder will be responsible for driving plant availability through ensuring all PPM’s, reactive maintenance, engineering, and process improvements are carried out and implemented in a timely manner. The role holder will drive best practice on a daily basis through high engineering, compliance and H&S standards.
The Biffa division you’ll be supporting.
Within Resources & Energy we focus on the treatment, recycling and disposal of waste. It provides a number of treatment services for those materials that can be recovered and landfill disposal for those that are not suitable for recycling or energy recover.

- You will drive the engineering team in line with Engineering Manager & Supervisor and pursue daily engineering issues that affect production and plant availability.
- Take responsibility for day-to-day engineering functions
- Plan and execute site PPM’s in line with priorities and operational requirements
- Take ownership of and communicate stock usage
- Plan activities in line with Engineering Manager & Supervisor to pre-empt spares and labour requirements in order to minimise operational disruptions
- Respond to reactive breakdowns in a timely manner to minimise downtime
- Ensure shift handovers and reports are completed effectively and communicated on a daily basis to the Management team.
- Manage engineering documents (PPM’s, excel stock ordering, etc)
- Ensure team members and contractors are briefed, trained and are completing their duties as required.
- Drive site KPI’s daily through engineering and operations teams: availability, efficiency, throughput, end products, etc
- Develop, train and share knowledge with staff in order to improve skills
- Ensure housekeeping is maintained to high standards
Requirements
Here’s what we require:
- Mechanical engineering qualification NVQ Level 3 minimum (Desirable but not essential)
- Electrical engineering qualification desirable
- Process minded with experience within an industrial maintenance role utilising Computerised Maintenance management Systems
- Good verbal and written communicator
- Previous experience in the waste industry - particularly with heavy plant and conveyors.
