Lead Engineer

We are looking for a Lead Engineer to oversee both planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and breakdown cover for all production equipment, site services, and plant facilities. The role is crucial in minimising disruption to factory operations, improving performance, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The Lead Engineer will also serve as the Company Health & Safety Officer.
Role and responsibilities
- Develop and implement a planned maintenance programme for all plant and equipment.
- Maintain records of maintenance activity and review downtime records to plan and prioritise remedial/improvement works.
- Monitor plant services and ensure compliance with statutory testing regulations.
- Liaise with external contractors, ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.
- Focus on improving efficiencies, reducing downtime, and managing costs.
- Attend breakdowns to minimise machinery downtime and assist in achieving factory operational performance targets.
- Manage spare parts listing and stock control, ensuring production is not compromised.
- Act as Company Fire Officer and manage tasks with Health & Safety Consultant.
- Ensure all engineering activities are conducted safely in accordance with company policy.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- Authorised to sign off on various operational and financial documents within set limits.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in managing plant and equipment maintenance programmes.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental management practices.
- Ability to manage technical manuals, hardware and software control, and measuring instrument calibration.
- Experience in staff management, including recruitment, performance assessment, and training.
- Familiarity with engineering software and hardware controls, including PLC controls.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
