Lead Project Manager

Information Services

Full-time

Permanent

£51,088 per annum

Roles available: 2

Application deadline: 12pm (midday) on Monday 20 May 2024

The Role:

The British Museum is at an exciting phase of its technical development with many older legacy systems currently being updated with new technologies. It is also embarking on its new Masterplan to restore and renovate the Bloomsbury site. This brings many opportunities for development, but also many changes and challenges. We are looking for a Lead Project Manager to help develop the PM function and support the Museum's digital and technology transformation. You will play an essential role by managing a team of Project Managers, while delivering a range of IT projects.

You will get the opportunity to work with stakeholders across the entire Museum, from Archives to Website design, and Facilities Management to Collection Care. This is a unique opportunity to deliver change to one of the world's most iconic and valuable cultural heritage institutions and be part of a community of people passionate about the values of the Museum and its 260-year legacy of providing free access to the history of the world.

About you:

We are seeking a passionate and driven Project Manager who will thrive in a complex and dynamic working environment.

  • You will be highly organised with the ability to manage several ongoing projects in tandem.
  • You will be able to work with numerous stakeholders to plan and manage resources.
  • You will have demonstrated ability to manage and support junior staff through projects to meet timelines and deliverables.
  • You will have a deep understanding of project management practices, and a drive to improve the function while aligning with Museum governance.
  • You will be able to work with conflicting timelines and on multiple concurrent projects to meet deadlines.
  • You will have excellent communications skill, both orally and in writing.
  • You will be able to clearly articulate project deliverables, project plans, and project updates through written reports and oral presentations.
  • You will have the ability to establish relationships and work effectively across all levels of the organisation. The ideal candidate will also have experience working across different parts of large organisations, and will be capable of working with business end-users and technical colleagues to deliver change.
  • You ensure projects are delivered to agreed time, budget and quality while managing project risks effectively.
  • You take pride in successful delivery. The ideal candidate will have a passion for understanding how the organisation works and delivering change in a way that works for the Museum.
  • Interest in history, arts, and culture is a plus. The British Museum is an exciting place to work, and we encourage all our staff to take full advantage of their access.

About the British Museum:

Founded in 1753, the British Museum's remarkable collection spans over two million years of human history and culture. The Museum is one of the leading visitor attractions and its world-famous collection includes the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon sculptures, Egyptian mummies, the Admonitions Scroll, and the Amaravati sculptures.

The Museum offers a competitive benefits package including:

  • Generous annual leave allowance of 25 days (rising to 30 days after 10 years' service) plus 2.5 privilege days and plus bank holidays
  • Membership of the civil service defined benefit pension scheme (find out here what benefits a civil service pension provides).
  • Free entry to a wide range of museums and exhibitions
  • Participation in private and public Museum activities, including talks by leading curators from around the world and behind-the-scenes opportunities to learn how museums care for and manage their extraordinary collections
  • Interest-free travel, bicycle and rental deposit loans
  • Professional and personal development opportunities
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Discounts on food and gift shop purchases
