Responsibilities
Decent Homes
- Lead the hands-on effort to ensure all properties exceed the decent homes standard through regular inspections, maintenance, and necessary upgrades.
- Work with residents to ensure they have quality modern appliances, furnishings, and decoration which feels like their own home. Assist with transporting and fitting furniture and fixtures as required.
Health & Safety Checks
- Use practical expertise to lead and oversee regular Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) assessments, to identify and proactively address potential risks in key areas of health and safety, fire risk, gas servicing, electrical safety, asbestos, legionella, damp and mould and any other areas to meet and maintain strict compliance.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and contractors to ensure a safe, cost-effective, high-quality maintenance service. Liaising with contractors and organising works as required.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, residents, and contractors to ensure an overall high level of satisfaction with the service.
Property Acquisition & Refurbishment
- Use your practical experience to actively identify and assess suitable properties for purchase, considering the needs of our residents and the overall mission of the charity.
- Be directly involved in overseeing the refurbishment process of new properties, working closely with contractors to ensure work meets quality standards and is completed within budget and timeframe.
Supporting people
- Welcome and support people to integrate into the Handcrafted community and access the opportunities and support offered by Handcrafted.
- Work with hub leads and support workers to help support vulnerable people as they start and maintain sustainable tenancies in safe and comfortable housing environments, to help them to discover the strengths and abilities that they have and how they can use these to help themselves.
- Able to get alongside people during complex crises to provide moral and practical support, assessing and managing the needs associated with safeguarding issues.
Developing & Partnering
- Supervise, train, and coordinate the work of Housing Maintenance Officers.
- Cultivate partnerships with other organisations, donors, and supporters, to promote the wellbeing of marginalised people.
- Undertake training courses and additional experience, tailored to your personal development, provided through Handcrafted and our partner organisations.
General
- Participate in an out of hours on call system, including attending properties where required.
- Attend Operations Management Team meetings to engage with other staff and volunteers, discuss strategic direction, and to pray about Handcrafted, its residents and trainees.
- Promote the vision and values of Handcrafted through all aspects of your work.
- Any other duties as reasonably requested by the Operations Director.
