Job Title: Learning Support Assistant We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team at Teaching Personnel in Horsham, West Sussex. In this full-time, permanent position, you will work within the school day to provide support to students with special educational needs (SEN). Key Responsibilities: Provide personalised support to students with SEN in the classroom setting, under the guidance and supervision of the teacher. Assist in delivering individualised learning programmes to meet the diverse needs of our students. Create a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting a sense of belonging and self-worth for all students. Support students with their social, emotional, and behavioural development, using effective strategies and techniques. Assist with personal care and physical activities, following relevant guidelines and procedures. Collaborate with teachers, professionals, and parents to develop and implement effective strategies for student success. Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents to support their growth and development. Help students improve their communication and language skills through targeted interventions. Accompany and support students during off-site educational visits and activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. Perform administrative tasks related to student records and resources with accuracy and attention to detail. Qualifications: Valid Team Teach certification or willingness to obtain certification. Teaching assistant qualification or relevant experience in a similar role. Autism awareness training or experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Education and Experience: A minimum of a teaching assistant qualification is required. Additional qualifications in special education or related fields would be advantageous. Prior experience as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar role is preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Strong understanding of SEN and the ability to adapt support to meet individual needs. Knowledge of effective teaching strategies for students with SEN, including differentiation and accommodations. Ability to provide support to students with diverse learning needs and recognise and respond to their emotional and behavioural needs. Familiarity with manual handling techniques and willingness to undergo training as needed. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating and sharing ideas and resources. Good organisational and record-keeping abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy. Working Conditions: The Learning Support Assistant will primarily work within a classroom environment, supporting students with special educational needs. Some off-site visits and activities may be required. The role involves regular collaboration with teachers, professionals, and parents/guardians.
