It is our pleasure to be recruiting on behalf of a fantastic Special School in Clacton-on-Sea. The school is currently looking for a promising, hardworking Learning Support Assistants to provide invaluable support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
The school is a driving force in education in the area and the school is looking for the ideal Learning Support Assistant who has the drive and passion to support Primary school pupils and get the very best from their education.
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will be part of an inspiring, energetic team whose mission is to be role models and to be a pillar of support for pupils who may struggle to engage with classroom materials due to additional needs. You will be expected to have an in-depth knowledge of a variety of SEN, most importantly Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) as the school specifically caters for children with ASC.
It will be your responsibility to work closely with the classroom teacher and the Special Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to identify the needs of pupils struggling in class and deliver firm strategies on how to make material easier for them to access. For some pupils, you may also need to pay close attention to their emotional wellbeing and provide emotional/social support in order to keep them motivated.
A successful Learning Support Assistant will need to be a conscientious, hard-working individual who is able to empathise with the challenges faced by pupils with additional needs. You must have previous classroom experience and must have experience supporting pupils with SEN such as ASC, ADHD or SLD.
Positions start off as temporary for the first 12-14 weeks but permanent positions will be available to LSAs who demonstrate excellent performance. An immediate permanent position may be available for particularly strong/experienced candidates.
Hours will be Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30am.
Pay is GBP425 per week (term time only).
To start in February 2024.
Candidate Requirements
- Must have experience of working within a school in the past 2 years.
- Must have experience of supporting students with challenging behaviour, ASD or ADHD and be of a calm but firm nature.
- Minimum requirement of holding a level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Must have or be willing to pay for an enhanced DBS (GBP52.20) on the update service (GBP13 a year).
- Advantageous holding of a Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Advantageous to have previous experience in the care sector.
- Advantageous to have previous teaching/tutoring/mentoring experience.
- Advantageous to have personal experience working with close family/siblings with SEN.
