Job details

Computing at The University of Central Lancashire is changing. Now part of the newly formed School of Engineering and Computing, we are looking to expand on our established strengths in Software Engineering, Games/VR, HCI/UX and Cyber Security to increase our student/staff community and develop new opportunities in teaching and research. Our ambition is to become a leading player in computing in the North-West region; recognised nationally for our teaching, knowledge exchange, industry engagement and research.

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer inAI/Machine Learning/Data Science who will contribute to our evolution and growth through academic delivery, course management, and research and knowledge exchange; with a strong recognition of success metrics, high academic quality and reputational integrity.

You will be a dynamic, enthusiastic academic with experience of working within a team environment, contributing to collective goals and supporting colleagues in achieving them. As a balanced academic you should recognise the importance of high-quality student experience and teaching, alongside an emerging and accelerating research profile. You will be seeking a position that supports your own ambitions for growth and professional development, with opportunities to lead in the further evolution of our computing offerings.

The successful candidate will be an excellent and inclusive team player, with experience of delivering a balanced portfolio spanning teaching and research in higher education. They will be able to demonstrate ability to build and maintain co-creational relationships within their immediate computing team, across multi-disciplinary activity within the university and engage with regional and national partnerships. They will have a breadth of knowledge across the wider computing domain, with deeper understanding of, and a developing reputation in, their particular specialism. They will have experience in delivering teaching and assessment within HE computing, applying suitable pedagogy to robustly develop and assess appropriate knowledge, skills and understanding across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They should recognise the importance of professional standards, attitudes, and behaviours, relevant to the computing domain and be able to effectively model these, through their own practice, supporting an equitable, diverse and inclusive culture and environment.

A good honours degree (or equivalent) in a STEM computing related subject and PhD in a relevant subject area is required for this role. Ideally applicants should hold a professional teaching qualification applicable to HE, and/or membership of the Higher Education Academy; or be willing to obtain these shortly after appointment.

Please contact Prof Rob Aspin (RAAspin@UCLan.ac.uk) or Dr Stephen Sigurnjak (SSigurnjak@UCLan.ac.uk) for further details or to discuss this opportunity.

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview.

This position is based in Preston. Depending on activity, you may also be required to visit, or work at, our Burnley campus. Work patterns may mean that weekend work is sometimes required.
