Job description

The Department of History at Lancaster University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Late Roman / Medieval History (with Latin) (Teaching and Scholarship). This is a 0.8FTE one year fixed-term appointment to start 1 September 2024. The candidate should have experience of undergraduate teaching, ideally including the teaching of Latin, as well as an active programme of scholarship and / or research. The successful candidate will be required to teach ‘The Fall of Rome’, a first-year undergraduate module exploring the factors behind the decline of the Roman Empire between the third and seventh centuries AD. They will also be required to teach ‘Introduction to Latin Translation for Undergraduates’ and ‘Introduction to Latin Translation for Historians’ (the equivalent module for postgraduate students). In addition, the candidate will make a more general contribution to the department’s teaching programme at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, for example by contributing to team-taught modules and supervising dissertations. The successful candidate will be expected to serve in an administrative role in the department and play a full role as a member of the History department community.
