Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic and collegial education team as a Lecturer in Nursing at the Department of Health Sciences, University of York.

The role will primarily involve delivery of our new Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship (RNDA), whilst also supporting simulated practice learning across the Department . The RNDA, which commences in March 2024, will be our third apprenticeship programme within the Department of Health Sciences, joining the Trainee Nursing Associate and Advanced Clinical Practitioner programmes. In addition, the Department offers a range of other undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes which the postholder will be able to contribute to.

We are seeking to appoint a committed and highly motivated registered nurse with a passion for nursing education and extensive knowledge of contemporary practice. Experience of teaching on apprenticeship programmes would be desirable, as would experience of involvement in the development and delivery of simulated practice learning.

The post is offered initially as a 12-month secondment or fixed-term contract.

Role

  • To lecture, lead seminars, tutorials and other forms of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, particularly focused on the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship
  • To support the ongoing development and delivery of simulation and simulated practice learning across the Department
  • To develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students
  • To carry out on-going curriculum review, including teaching content and materials and contribute to the development of teaching and learning strategies
  • To undertake effectively a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Postgraduate degree in Nursing OR equivalent professional experience
  • Current registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Extensive knowledge of nursing practice and the ability to design & develop teaching programmes and offer provision of learning support across different levels of academic activity
  • Experience of teaching on apprenticeship programmes and/or supporting apprentices in practice settings
  • Ability to teach at any level within area of expertise, and across a range of subjects at a more introductory level, and demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment in the process of teaching
