Hourly Paid Lecturer Physics and Computing Sciences – University of East London International Study Centre

Within our University Partnerships division, our UEL International Study Centre has grown very significantly since its launch in 2018, and now offers:

  • International Foundation programmes in Accounting, Architecture, Business and Management, Engineering, Computing and Science, Hospitality Management, Humanities and Social Science and Law
  • International Year One programmes in Business and Engineering, and from September 2021, Computer Science and Hospitality Management
  • International Graduate Diploma and pre-masters programmes
  • Pre-sessional, in-sessional and induction programmes for UEL international degree-level students

We now seek two experienced lecturers to assist the Programme Leader and Academic Director in all aspects of the delivery of our Physical Science and Computer Science modules as a key member of the UEL International Study Centre Team.

The lecturers will have a robust approach to the delivery of teaching and learning while adopting innovative classroom techniques. The candidates will have at the heart student performance and retention through a supportive, encouraging and creative learning environment.

The ideal candidates will promote best practices in all aspects of his/her work, and be sympathetic to our students; s/he will take decisions and accept responsibility. S/he will have a willingness to learn and adapt, and most importantly have a positive attitude which will underpin the delivery and further growth of our programmes at our centre at the University of East London.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver teaching in the subject area. We are looking at two candidates with experience to deliver one of the following modules:

  • Physical Sciences or Modelling and Designing

Key Relationships

Report to the Programme Leader on all aspects of the role, in particular in the progress monitoring reporting of individual students’ engagement and achievement throughout the semester.

Student Leadership and Pastoral Care

Ensuring the academic team provides the highest level of pastoral care, including acting as a personal tutor to a diverse range of students.

Working with the Student Services team to support and promote the highest standards of welfare for students, with safeguarding being central to the team’s approach.

The International Study Centre located in the University of East London Docklands Campus.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Academic qualification at post-graduate or equivalent level or relevant professional qualifications.
  • Ability to deliver a breadth of modules in the subject area at levels 3 and 4.
  • Ability to customise teaching and assessment practices to a range of programmes of study and a diverse student population.

  • Relevant teaching experience. Normally a minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  • Experience in academic assessment and standards and quality assurance procedures.
  • An understanding of the needs and requirements of international students.
  • Direct experience of higher education in an international context.

Desirable

  • The ability to contribute to integrated teaching and assessment across the curriculum.

Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrable cross-cultural awareness and understanding
  • A commitment to teamwork.
  • A record of achievement in teaching.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills including fluency in English. Numerate and articulate.
  • Communicate effectively with academics in the centre
  • Competence in the effective use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT).
  • Proven planning and organisational skills and an ability to take initiative within curriculum and policy objectives.
  • A record of attention to detail, thoroughness and fairness.
  • The ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, work under pressure and, when necessary, with minimal resources.

Salary: £30.00-£40.00 per hour
