Job description

Title:  Lecturer in Veterinary Nursing

Type:  Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: £37,229 - £42,660 per annum

Location: School of Veterinary Medicine, Aberdeen

REF: ANF/VET/035/23

Closing Date: 31 January 2024

Due to continued expansion of our clinical education provision we are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Veterinary Nursing, accountable to the Programme Leader for Veterinary Nursing, with the post holder responsible for providing Veterinary Nursing teaching and clinical skills instruction for students across the School of Veterinary Medicine.  You will also be responsible for leading individual courses and take a role in year tutor student support. 

You will possess and apply well-developed specialist teaching and clinical skills and knowledge to support the successful delivery of mutiple Veterinary Nursing and related teaching programmes and be educated to at least degree level.  Unfortunately, candidates who do not possess a degree, or are not eligibile for registration with the RCVS, are ineligible for this post.

Key responsibilities are to:

  • Arrange, organise and deliver lectures and teaching materials as required
  • Deliver high quality programmes of education and training, including teaching and assessment (including OSCEs) a wide range of practical and clinical skills to a high standard
  • Interact with students to check their knowledge and understanding, and to provide constructive feedback to learners
  • Set students, and supervise, project activities
  • Maintain appropriate records of teaching, assessment and attendance in line with the organisation’s policies
  • Undertake teaching, administration and assessment in accordance with the requirements of the institution and appropriate awarding and regulatory body standards (e.g. RCVS)
  • Provide guidance and advice to students around learning support, student support and counselling
  • Participate in external visits and/or study tours as required
  • Attend and contribute to a range of recruitment activities such as open days, applicant days, taster sessions, CPD events, careers evenings and School/SRUC promotional events, locally and nationally
  • Attend core meetings with academic, professional and support staff, and students as required
  • Maintain your CPD for RCVS accreditation
  • Conduct research and/or scholarship activities staying abridged of current developments in your subject area

Salary on appointment will be based on experience and qualifications.

The post holder will perform additional duties as directed from time to time by the Line Manager or members of the senior management team. 

The post holder must use their initiative in the conduct of their work, and apply sound judgement at all times to ensure they conduct themselves within the framework of SRUC regulations and policies.
