Focusing on skills for which Leek became world-famous-silk, dyes, blockprints, embroidery-Leek Textile Week (23-29 September 2024 with a taster weekend 20-21 January 2024) will pay homage to William Morris' acclaimed collaboration with Thomas Wardle, reveal important collaborations with Indian artisans and celebrate the magnificent work of Leek Embroidery Society. But this is more than a historic legacy-former Leek mill workers and Indian artisans have important stories to tell. We will use this pilot week as an opportunity to uncover the knowledge that shaped textiles in the past and use it to help transform our future.
We are seeking a coordinator to support League of Artisans team in the lead up and during Leek Textile Week for 12 days (96 hours) at £200 a day, with a total contract value of £2400.
We estimate around 50% of the work can be carried out remotely, with the remaining time spent at monthly Community Steering Committee meetings where feasible (approx 1 hour, usually in the evening) and during Leek Textile Week at venues where activities will take place, including an outdoor arts trail.
