We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to join a team as a Legacy Officer. You will work 35 hours per week, on a permanent basis and will be based remotely. In return you will receive a salary of up to £39,723 per annum plus excellent benefits.

Since 1927, the charity has helped thousands of cats each year, across the UK. As a community of volunteers, employees, supporters and partners, they’ve improved the lives of millions of cats and transformed the way millions of people see and care for cats.

There are currently six members of the Legacy Team who are responsible for calling in all legacies bequeathed to charity, including those left to the branches and adoption centres throughout the UK. Working with lay and professional Executors, the team’s role is to ensure that they maximise the value of legacies generously bequeathed to the charity by benefactors.

Responsibilities of the Legacy Officer:

As Legacy Officer, you’ll be responsible for the management and conducting of residuary, pecuniary, trust and life interest bequests; ensuring the charity’s tax exemptions are utilised correctly; advising Executors of the charity’s requirements with regard to the selling of estate property, appropriation and compliance with the Charities Act 2011 disposal of land legislation and liaising and corresponding with Executors, solicitors and charity co-beneficiaries where appropriate to resolve disputes which could lead to the issuing of legal proceedings

What we’re looking for in the Legacy Officer:

  • experience of working within the probate law or charity legacy administration sector
  • TEP, ILEX, Law degree or ILM CiCLA.
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • keen attention to detail, organised and methodical
  • ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • ability to manage your own workload

What’s being offered:

  • salary of up to £39,723 per annum plus excellent benefits
  • generous annual leave entitlement
  • Flexible working options
  • life assurance scheme
  • range of health benefits including private healthcare
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • and more

Through values and behaviours the charity helps people see the world through cats’ eyes. Together we can make a difference.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications or CVs that are emailed to us directly.

Closing date: 4th July 2024

Virtual interview date: W/C 15th July onwards

Applications may close before the deadline, so please apply early to avoid disappointment. Please note, applications received after the closing date may not be responded to.

The charity operates a bias-free application process in their commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. To assess your application quickly, fairly and objectively, please fully complete the qualifications and work history sections of their online application form.

Redacted CVs may be accepted by exception.

We believe being an inclusive, diverse organisation - where we welcome diversity of thought, value individuals' experience and can reach and partner all areas of society - is crucial if we're to help more cats. Our ambition is to work together to promote a more inclusive environment, which attracts all candidates and signals our commitment to celebrate and promote diversity.

There’s a place for everyone and we encourage applications from talented people across all communities.

The charity is committed to safeguarding children and adults at risk and protecting anyone that comes into contact with us from harm. We expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. You may be subject to a criminal record check if required for the role.
