Are you an experienced solicitor or barrister who enjoys problem-solving? Do you thrive both independently and within a team, navigating complex legal landscapes? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you.
About the role
As a key member of our Legal Services team, you'll play a pivotal role in providing expert legal advice and managing legal risks across various facets of our institution. Your responsibilities will include:
- Offering strategic legal advice to support our university's objectives
- Managing legal risks associated with commercial, student, employment, consumer and various other matters
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders and external advisers as needed
- Advising on a spectrum of complex issues, from collaboration agreements to dispute resolution
- Training colleagues and promoting best practice across the institution
- Ensuring compliance with legal, statutory, and regulatory obligations
You'll be at the forefront of driving excellence and innovation within our legal framework, contributing to the overall success of our institution.
About you
We're seeking qualified solicitors or barristers with the following skills and attributes:
- Exceptional drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
- Strong analytical capabilities and decision-making prowess
- Experience dealing with a diverse workload either as an in-house lawyer or part of a commercial private practice
- Proficiency in preparing, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts
- Sound understanding of legal disciplines such as contract, company, consumer and data protection law
- Previous experience in the higher education sector or other in-house roles, including in employment law, would be a benefit
