Job Description

• Department: Legal.
• Contract: 12 month FTC Maternity cover (with potential to extend).
• Salary: Competitive + Comprehensive benefits package.
• Location: Remote with regular in-person meetings in the northwest. Option to be office based at any Giacom location.

Role Overview

This is a Maternity cover role sought in respect of a senior member of the Giacom legal team. However, the team has been expanding to enable it to effectively support the business through its ongoing growth and a longer-term or permanent position may well be considered for the right candidate.

The current team is a mixture of newly appointed and longer-term team members. It consists of a General Counsel supported by a Senior Counsel and two Legal Counsel positions. Alongside providing practical commercial advice, the team prioritises personal development and the development of strong internal relationships. The team are trusted advisors in the business and are known for getting the job done.

The successful candidate will report directly into the General Counsel and will also work directly with Giacom Executive Team and SLT members as well as having shared responsibility for the supervision of two more junior members of the team.

We are looking for a motivated and proactive, experienced commercial lawyer to work as part of a high-calibre legal (and wider Giacom) team. The role requires predominantly independent working (alongside commercial, compliance and sales colleagues) as well as providing support to other members of the legal team on larger projects.

Notwithstanding that the initial appointment is on a fixed-term basis, the successful candidate will be viewed very much as a long-term member of the team and we are looking for applicants who would view the appointment in the same way. 

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Reporting to the General Counsel.
• Shared supervision of two junior team members.
• Draft and negotiate customer and supplier contracts.
• Draft and negotiate business partner, distributor, and sales agency agreements.
• Advise on Intellectual Property and Data Protection matters.
• Draft and update precedent contracts and terms and conditions.
• Assist the legal team in large and business-critical projects.
• Project manage all matters relating to a project or contract negotiation including working with sales and commercial teams and approvers.
• Advise the business on the interpretation of commercial contracts and identifying areas of risk.
• Manage instructed solicitors and counsel where required.
• Carry out any ‘ad hoc’ assignments as and when required.
• To be compliant with health and safety company policy and legislation.
• Identify legal and regulatory changes in the UK which would impact the company’s business.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor of England and Wales.
• Strong academics and training background.
• In-house experience welcome but not necessary.
• Extensive knowledge and proven record of accomplishment in commercial law and some knowledge of the IT, telco or Cloud industry would be helpful.
• Strong focus on organisation, communication, detail and accuracy.
• Ability to problem solve, identifying pragmatic commercial solutions.
• Ability to present complex legal advice in an easy to understand manner.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders.
