Legal Counsel

We are expanding our activities in the UK and are especially excited to have formed the Imerys British Lithium joint venture, where we are well advanced in the feasibility studies for an integrated lithium mine and processing plant in Cornwall.
This is in addition to our well-established activities of extraction and extensive processing of industrial minerals in Cornwall, Devon and Dorset via Imerys Minerals Ltd (IML), which serves a number of end user markets including ceramics, paints & coating, building materials and rubber applications. IML is recognized as a key mining company, hosts one of Imerys’s main R&D laboratories, and exports a significant share of its production throughout Europe and beyond.
We are hiring for a Legal Counsel which is a stand-alone UK position and sits within our EMEA legal team, who are responsible for supporting our business throughout the region. The scope of the role includes customer contracts, sales, purchasing, S&T and real estate, as well as related claims, disputes, arbitration, mediation and settlement. However, this person will be the point of contact for operational legal matters in the UK, with strong ties to the operational and management teams both in IML and in the lithium venture.
This role provides someone with the unique opportunity to join us at the start of their legal career and the opportunity to gain exposure to a wide variety of legal matters, litigation management as well as mine development, engineering and construction contracts worth hundreds of millions of pounds. Long term there is the career path to progress to a Senior Legal Advisor / Manager in our business.

Ideally candidates will be based in the Cornwall area though we are able to consider candidates based in other locations provided they are happy to travel to the West Country and to our Paris head office which is where the legal team is based. This travel comprises about 25% of the role.
We welcome applications from candidates with a minimum of two years PQE, who hold an LLB degree in UK Law and have knowledge of the UK legal system.
Experience of drafting commercial contracts, contract reviews and negotiation is essential. Fluent in English (both written and verbal) is essential and a second language (ideally French) would be a bonus.
