Role Purpose
We are looking for a Mid-Level Legal Counsel to join our team in providing timely, commercial and high-quality legal support to all parts of Avanti’s business.
The role will report directly into Avanti’s Deputy General Counsel and be part of a small, close-knit and collaborative team.
The ideal candidate will be a flexible, commercially minded, and confident team player, with experience gained both in private practice and in-house. They should also have a desire to experience a broad range of work, including new areas, in an exciting and growing industry.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements including customer and supplier contracts, master services agreements and framework agreements and non-disclosure agreements
- Providing clear and commercially astute advice to all business units (including technology, sales, procurement, satellite/ground operations functions and HR) across a wide range of matters, including contract interpretation, pre-litigation disputes and ad hoc queries
- Assisting with preparation of, and advising on, RFPs (including government tenders)
- Leading on (with support of paralegal/other members of the team) to refine internal data protections processes and ensure data protection compliance
- Supporting General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel on ad hoc corporate/financing matters, and other strategic projects
- Keeping abreast of and advising on applicable legal and regulatory matters
- Providing guidance on, and ensuring compliance with, company policies
- Assisting in other areas as and when required such as employment, litigation, regulatory and property matters.
- Supporting and assisting in the development of junior members of the team
- Liaising with external (including local) counsel as required
Skills & Qualifications
Essential: –
- A minimum of 5 years PQE with demonstrable experience of working on a broad range of commercial matters, including time spent in-house
- The individual will be proactive, versatile, organized and with good communications skills. He/she will also have the ability to think laterally and to support all areas of the business by applying legal knowledge to find pragmatic and timely commercial solutions
- Experience of advising at all levels of a business, with the ability to “tailor” style/advice as appropriate
- Qualified as a solicitor of England and Wales (or other common law jurisdiction), with current practicing certificate
Desirable: –
- Experience of working internationally/on multi-jurisdictional transactions
- Trained and qualified at top-tier law firm or in-house with an equivalent organization
