Introduction

Our client works on secure MOD contracts and are looking for a Linux Infrastructure Engineer to build, manage and support their Linux estate.

The successful candidate must have experience installing, supporting, maintaining and developing Linux systems on an operational and project basis.

Working Patterns - Hybrid likely 3 days per week on site, 2 days remote.

Key responsibilities
  • Install, design, configure and troubleshoot Infrastructure.
  • Undertake system monitoring and updates for Infrastructure and Security.
  • Undertake and maintain LDAP directory updates, profile administration, network and software installations.
  • Investigate and rectify any reported faults covering, but not limited to; PC, Server, LAN, i-Fi and VOIP.
  • Regular review and updating of all Technical IT Documentation.
  • Implement and maintain information security controls.
  • Manage support and troubleshooting documents.
  • Provide technical assistance, fault diagnostics and IT support.
Skills & experience
  • Experience within an IT operations, engineering or development environment.
  • Be familiar with infrastructure build and monitoring tools, as well as troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong experience maintaining and troubleshooting Linux server (RedHat and Ubuntu).
  • Experience of common Linux software such as Apache, Nginx, PostgreSQL, OpenSSL, Bind, FreeIPA etc.
  • Experience with virtualisation software Hyper-V, Proxmox or VMware.
  • Experience with Service Desk and Customer Support Tools.
  • Networking knowledge and concepts including switching, routing, firewalls, load balancing.
  • Scripting, automation and containerisation skills are desirable.
