Job Title: Locum Housing Litigation Legal Officer

Location: London – Hybrid Working Pattern of 1 day a Week Office Prescence

Rate: Up to£300 umbrella day rate dependent upon experience

Venn Group’s specialised legal team are working in conjunction with a Local Authority based in London to recruit a Locum Housing Litigation Legal Officer to provide specialist legal advice on Housing Litigation law within the Local Authority

The role is offered on a 3-month basis, with there being a robust possibility of an extension on a rolling basis, judged on a case-by-case basis. This role represents a unique opportunity for a Specialist Housing Litigation Legal Officer to contribute to a London based Local Authority

The ideal candidate will be Qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive (FCILEx) or highly experienced Paralegal with extensive knowledge of Housing Litigation law within Local Government. Candidates with casehandling experience are actively encouraged to apply for this role. 

Duties shall include:

1. Disrepair Case Management: Handle a personal workload of disrepair cases, ensuring adherence to relevant time limits
2. Pre-action Letter Response: Respond to pre-action letters, including tasks such as instructing expert witnesses, advising on damages, and preparing legal documents like pleadings and witness statements
3. Counsel Briefing and Attendance:Brief Counsel following Legal Services’ procedures and, when necessary, attend conferences with Counsel
4. Research and Advisory Role: Conduct research and provide advice to client officers on relevant legal matters
5. Court Advocacy: Act as the Council’s advocate at various courts and tribunals, including the County Court, Magistrates Court, ensuring effective representation
6. Litigation Support: Provide support to solicitors in the Litigation team
7. Policy and Procedure Development: Contribute to the development of policies and procedures within the Litigation team

The role of Locum Housing Litigation Legal Officer comes with a day rate of up to £300 umbrella per hour, dependent upon experience and gives a Lawyer or highly experienced Paralegal the chance to join an exciting and forward thinking team within Local Government
