Estate Overview
The Estate is a high quality, prestigious country estate. It extends to circa 4,000 acres of which approximately 70% is farmland and 30% woodland. There is a Listed Principal House with some 50 acres of magnificent gardens surrounded by parkland.
The majority of the farmland is farmed in-hand through a contracting arrangement. There is a
managed pheasant shoot.
There are ongoing programmes to both maintain and refurbish properties and to seek out
development opportunities. The Estate includes 40 houses and cottages, of which many are let.
Job Description
Administration
- Direct liaison with the Owner’s principal Executive.
- Live on the Estate and act as caretaker, responding to any incidents.
- The hours of working will be flexible and will involve some weekend work.
- Work on-site from the Estate Office, supported by an Estate Secretary.
- Responsible for the day to day and strategic management of all aspects of the Estate with
awareness of the sensitive nature of the Estate’s environmental and wider responsibilities.
- Implement the management through the heads of the House, Gardens, Security,
Buildings/Maintenance, Farm, and Shoot Departments.
- Formally report to the Board of Directors. On a day-to-day basis, the Estate Manager will
work in conjunction with the Chief of Staff of the Principal’s Family Office. An Estate
Management Meeting will occur approximately once per month.
- Implement efficiencies across all departments.
- Maintain all Estate files and records.
- Reply to all correspondence, enquiries and demands promptly and efficiently.
- Ensure that the Estate at all times complies with all relevant legislation, statutory codes and
guidance including health and safety, the management of rights of way, roadside trees, etc.
- Represent the owners in the local community and with all relevant authorities, e.g. local
Parish Councils.
- At all times uphold the good name and reputation of the Estate.
- To assist in the continuing development of the management and IT systems.
Staffing
- Liaise with the client's HR department based in London on all HR matters including
recruitment, training, year-end salary and performance review, and any disciplinary issues.
- Responsible for past and current employee welfare.
Finance
- In collaboration with the client's London accounting department, implement, track, and
reconcile annual revenue and budgets.
- Ensure adequate controls and systems for expenditure are in place and adhered to.
- Ensure that all procurement, contracting, and other work is delivered in the most cost-
effective manner.
Presentation/Estate Maintenance
- Fully responsible for presenting the Estate to the highest standards at all times.
- Ensure that all properties, walls, hedges, fences, gates, woodlands, tracks and driveways,
utilities, vehicles, machinery and equipment are properly maintained.
Buildings
- In conjunction with the London Property and Building Departments, and the Estate’s
buildings team, ensure the maintenance, renovation, and refurbishment of all Estate
buildings as required including the Main House, Estate buildings, and all rental properties.
- In consultation with the Board of Directors and outside consultants, drive and identify
development opportunities.
Miscellaneous
- To provide the Owners with the support required from time to time i.e. when in residence.
