AskJules specialises in helping physically disabled university students recruit and employ Personal Assistants to provide personal care and academic support.
Our client is a PhD student at Cardiff University studying Politics and International Relations. Their dissertation is studying the PIRA bombings in the Northern Ireland conflict. The client suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and is a full-time wheelchair user. They are looking for a PA to assist them with many aspects of daily life.
Location: Cardiff with occasional travel both national and international.
Shifts: Live-in: One week on / One week off.
Start date: ASAP
You must hold a driving licence to be able to drive the client’s Automatic vehicle.
Pay & Benefits
Pay: £150 per day
Holidays: 5.6 weeks (pro rata)
Nest Pension Scheme
Bespoke training on the client’s particular requirements will be provided
On-call support from our client coordinator
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Assisting with personal care routines, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Providing support with mobility, transfers and positioning, using proper lifting techniques and assistive equipment.
- Administering medications and assisting with medical equipment as needed.
- Assisting with meal preparation, and adhering to dietary requirements.
- Engaging in meaningful activities and companionship to promote social well-being.
- Assisting with light housekeeping and maintaining a safe and clean environment.
- Accompanying medical appointments and recreational outings.
- Following and updating care plans, ensuring the individual's safety and comfort at all times.
- Occasional note-taking when attending lectures
What we are looking for:
- A compassionate and patient demeanour with a strong commitment to improving the lives of those in need.
- Previous experience in caregiving, personal assistance, or a related field is desirable but not essential as we provide comprehensive training, tailored around the client.
- Ability to perform lifting and transfers of the client (training and equipment provided).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a care team.
- Dependable, punctual, and adaptable to various caregiving situations.
- You must hold a valid passport should any international travel be required
- A confident driver
- An undergraduate degree in a related field is desirable but not essential.
