If so, AstraZeneca is the place for you! We are looking for a talented and motivated computational biologist to join our growing Biologics Augmented Biologics Discover & Design team. This team is central to our Biologics Engineering team, responsible for the discovery and optimisation of biological candidate drugs and the development of in-house biologics discovery platforms.

SITE DESCRIPTION

This role will be located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, this site combines biomedical research, patient care and education on a single site location in the heart of Cambridge. The office will be within walking distance of the new purpose-built building that will bring together the company’s research and development activity in a state-of-the-art strategic R&D centre and global corporate headquarters. The building has been crafted with the open architecture reflecting AstraZeneca’s approach to research. Open laboratories and glass walls will enable new ways of working across teams, whilst a central courtyard will put science on full display.

BUSINESS AREA

The Biologics Engineering team is responsible for the discovery and optimisation of biological candidate drugs to support all therapy area drug discovery pipelines and for the development of in-house biologics discovery platforms and novel drug modalities to support future drug discovery efforts.

What you’ll do

As a Senior Scientist, you will contribute to the development of an end-to-end data analysis capability within our Biologics Engineering team. You will work collaboratively with data and drug discovery scientists to establish structural analytics workflows for biologics discovery. You will drive innovative structural, generative & Machine Learning methods for the design and optimisation of therapeutic proteins. You will also participate in strategic external collaborations and support testing and verification of data management analyses and tools and pipelines in collaboration with AZ stakeholders. Your effective communication skills will be crucial in translating complex concepts to non-experts in internal and external scientific meetings.

Essential for the role

  • PhD in relevant field (e.g. Structural Biology, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Physics and Mathematics)
  • Knowledge of computational biology and demonstrated application of data analysis methods
  • Experience with the analysis of large structural, sequence and experimental datasets.
  • Skilled in applying generative AI, Machine learning or deep learning to design and optimise proteins
  • Strong, professional communication skills and excellent attention to detail, capable of developing good working relationships with diverse individuals
  • Experience working within a team environment
  • Acts with integrity and does the right thing

Desirable for the role

  • Experience with structural modelling platforms (e.g. Schrodinger, Rosetta etc)
  • Familiarity with antibody discovery & optimisation, protein structures
  • Knowledge of FAIR data principles
