Here at Collins Maintenance Repair and Overhaul UK facility in Marston Green, we provide specialist technical support for Electronic Engine Control, Fuel Metering units, Actuators and Pump units widely used in the Aerospace industry.
Position Summary:
Our business desires to develop the next generation of engineers and technicians. As such, we are delighted to be recruiting for 1x Machine Shop Apprentice that will form part of our 2024 cohort. During a four (4) year Apprenticeship Program, successful candidates will get the opportunity to not just work within our many operational cells, but they will also gain experience within our support functions to gain a broad overview of our Business.
This is what you can expect from the program:
Year 1 – The programme starts in September 2024, you will receive a base salary and be based full-time at the In-Comm training college, Aldridge. This year will cover the Practical Competence foundation elements of your apprenticeship alongside your Level 3 knowledge this apprenticeship will have a heavy focus around the machining competencies.
Year 2 – Working at Collins Aerospace Marston Green with Wednesday classroom at In-Comm completing your Level 3 knowledge subjects. You will rotate around different departments around our site to develop a deep understanding of how our business operates. During which time you will be completing your units towards your level 3 work-based learning.
Year 3 – Working at Collins Aerospace Marston Green with 1 day per week for HNC or equivalent qualification. Most apprentices choose to complete a HNC in either Electronic or Mechanical Engineering at Solihull College. You will spend this year in our Machine Shop focusing on producing evidence to meet the required training criteria to become competent at the job.
Year 4 – Based at Collins Aerospace Marston Green with 1 day per week to complete your HNC or equivalent qualification that you started in Year 3.
Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship experience and qualification, you will have the opportunity to become a fully qualified ‘Intermediate Technician’ with the company with great opportunities to progress further and build your career. Collins Aerospace is committed to the development of its employees and will fully fund any further education course that has relevance to the company or your role. This includes degrees & master’s degrees that can be completed on a part-time basis at any approved university.
Key Responsibilities:
Duties include but are not limited to:
Machining Engine Control System product assemblies (Jig Bore, Turning, Grinding, Lapping, Bench)
Opportunity to expand role into Process Inspection & Non-Destructive Testing areas
Meet turn around time requirements and output targets by adopting a flexible approach within the team
Completing all college work on time and to a high standard
Completing all work set by In-Comm as part of your apprenticeship standard
Shadowing employees to learn our processes
Acting in a safe & responsible manner at all times
Actively engage with and implement improvements
Participating in any training courses required by the company
Essential Criteria:
BTEC, A/T-Levels or GCSE Maths, English & Science at grade 4 or above
A strong willingness to learn
Ability to work with other people as part of a team
Attention to detail, methodical approach, no deviation
Being a highly motivated team player
Desirable Criteria:
A keen interest in Aerospace and/or Engineering
Experience of mechanical engineering subjects
Good Microsoft Office skills
