Our client is capable of producing the largest and most technically challenging cast and forged steel components in the world. They are seeking an Machine Shop Inspector from a machining background to join their growing team in Sheffield.

The client is interested in meeting with experienced machinists or inspectors from any precision industry.

The role:

Machine Shop Inspector

Hours Per Week: 37.5

Working Hours: 3 Shift Rotation

  • Mornings - 6am - 1:20pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday / 6am - 2:50pm Wednesdays.
  • Afternoons - 1pm - 8:20pm Monday -Thursday / 1pm -10pm Fridays.
  • Nights - 8pm - 6:20am Monday - Thursday.

Salary: £30,687 - £36,640 with the potential to increase salary following a probationary period.

Overtime: Overtime is available. Time and ½ Monday – Saturday and double time on a Sunday.

The successful candidate will be required to carry out a Dimensional Inspection and mark out cast, forged or wrought products and generate associated documentation.

Key responsibilities of the Machine Shop Inspector:

  • Perform Inspection in all areas of the Machine Shop and off-site as and when required
  • Be willing to travel within the UK and aboard if requested
  • Visit internal and external Machine Shops to assist with issues as required
  • Dimensional Inspection/Mark Out of castings/forgings for, and after machining, to ensure conformance to drawing
  • Inspect castings/forgings using traditional inspection equipment micrometres, verniers etc.
  • Inspect castings/forgings using Faro Arms, Laser scanners and trackers, and any other measuring equipment as required
  • Assist in the set-up of items for machining to ensure drawing conformance
  • Perform witnessed inspections with visiting customer inspectors as required
  • Liaise with Foundry, Forge, and Machine Shop personnel to ensure that items for inspection are correctly identified and safely located
  • Assist Fettlers, Burners, Welder, Machinist etc. to understand any dimensional issues they may have and supply any measuring aids if required, Templates etc
  • Liaise with supervision to ensure they understand the requirements resulting from the Mark Out/inspection of a casting/forging
  • Liaise with the Methods/Production Planning/Technical Departments to obtain information that may be required to Mark Out / Inspect a casting/forging
  • Produce Mark Out reports & As Built reports
  • Produce & Log Work Sheets for defective parts
  • Assist with the preparation of documents to meet customer requirements
  • Maintain work records for all operations undertaken
  • Attend PFMEA meetings
  • Create Visual Fair reports
  • Record worked hours for costing purposes including additional costs associated with non-standard operations utilising Mestec or other software
  • Assist in the resolution of NCR’s, CAR’s and customer complaints
  • Undergo training both internally and externally as necessary to meet order book contractual requirements inclusive of technology complementary to dimensional inspection
  • Adhere to Health & Safety rules and regulations, undergo training at internal/external sources as necessary to meet H&S requirements
  • Operate Fork Truck, Pendant Crane etc. (If trained & competent, seek training if not trained)

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience of working within a machining environment
  • Ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings
  • Inspection experience
  • Experience in crane driving and slinging is highly desirable
