Shop Floor Supervisor
Salary: Circa £20 per hour
Location: Nottinghamshire
Job Type: Permanent

EMBS Engineering is in an exclusive partnership with an award-winning precision engineering company located in Nottinghamshire, a leading specialist in the manufacture of machined and fabricated turn-key components.
Over the past 24 months, our client has invested in state-of-the-art machinery, enhanced internal facilities, and explored new technologies, including 3D printing, showcasing their dedication to innovation.
In light of this, our client is seeking an experienced Shop Floor Supervisor to join them permanently.

The role primarily involves ensuring the workflow and output of the Machine Shop are as efficient and productive as possible. As a Shop Floor Supervisor will utilize engineering knowledge to identify ways to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and coordinating manufacturing activities within cells to meet customer delivery schedules
  • Optimizing productivity to meet production Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reduce the cost of quality
  • Providing professional leadership and direction to the section team, addressing programming and machining issues
  • Taking direct responsibility for production, exceeding customer expectations regarding delivery and quality
  • Liaising with other sections at daily production meetings, defining capacity issues/opportunities to improve workflow
  • Ensuring regular maintenance of machine tools following company procedures
  • Facilitating formal Toolbox Talks & SQCDP boards
  • Ensuring 5S is executed in the section, maintaining Work in Progress (WIP) squares and the "parts to go" area


Successful applicants MUST be able to demonstrate

  • Solid machining background within precision engineering environments
  • Ability to perform Programming, Setting, and Operating on CNC Milling &/OR Turning machines using Fanuc controls
  • Competence in working on multi-axis machinery
  • Experience with various materials, including exotic alloys (Inconel, duplex, titanium, waspalloy, etc.)
  • Machining small to medium-sized, safety-critical, complex components for high-profile industries
  • Ability to identify new ways of working to improve machining efficiencies
  • Strong leadership qualities and characteristics


Desirable experience/skills:

  • Worked on Mill Turn or Turn Mill machines
  • Programmed using Fanuc AND Heidenhain
  • Team Leader/Supervisory/Management experience
  • Ran Continuous Improvement activities to enhance OEE, tooling costs, reduce cycle times, manning hours, etc.
