Job description

Lead the site Maintenance function in providing both a hands-on proactive and reactive, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities.

With a manufacturing capacity of 270,000 tonnes from sites based in Scotland.

Description

* Take a hands on approach to the maintenance remit and lead from the front to help drive improvement projects and the team forward

* Responsible for supporting the supervision, formulation, administration and coordination of engineering projects, methods and procedures designed to improve operating performance, reduce delays/downtimes and otherwise promote cost reductions

* Support, encourage and develop the team, taking ownership for team cohesion and proactively contribute to creating a good team atmosphere

* Maintain and develop skills levels in order to keep pace with the demands of the business.

* Schedule both internal and external work, optimising planned down time and reducing unplanned downtime

* Ensure routine calibration and maintenance requirements are undertaken.

* Develop and implement process improvements

* Liaise and communicate with other departments, suppliers and service providers to optimise the output of both the mill and the engineering department

* Plan and execute a proactive maintenance regime

* Requirement for hands-on analysis and problem solving

* Manage Departmental Assets and Spending

* Lead and Develop Group Engineering Projects

* Ensure that all work is done in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff, contractors and visitors

Provides leadership and management guidance to ensure a high level of customer service throughout every aspect of our business by:

* Instilling team working and high standards towards both internal and external customers.

Compliance (Health, Safety, Quality & Environment)

* HSE - Provides leadership and manages enforcement of compliance to legislative, 3rd party and company standards.

* Quality - Provide leadership and guidance to Direct Reports to ensure compliance with company standards.

Reporting

* Develop an effective set of key KPI's / Objectives with the relevant stakeholders and reports data for presentation to all levels of the business including the Board.

* Takes action on these KPI's where figures are not hitting target or benchmark.

Continuous Improvement

* Supports the concept of continuous improvement within the business.

* Supports the CI framework and helps embed it within the function.

* Provides input and support to the CI project pipeline.

* Supports and encourages change within specific function.

* Encourages collaboration across sites and functions.

* Ensures direct reports have CI related goals and are held accountable for delivery.

* Recommends improvements or initiatives to reduce unnecessary complexity within business processes and to introduce better ways of working.

* Facilitates and supports resolution of barriers when escalated.

* Supports prioritisation of initiatives.

* Sponsors change initiatives from concept to project delivery.

Profile

Skills:

* Happy to take a hands-on approach to the maintenance remit

* Proven track record of Maintenance Management, having held a supervisory position within a
manufacturing environment

* Excellent planning and organisation skills

* Flexibility to respond to a variety of work situations

* Ability to effectively manage the tasks of the Maintenance team and ensure an efficient
and effective service is provided to the site.

* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

* A positive, 'can do' attitude and the ability to work effectively under pressure

* Competent in the use of email, computerised systems, and administration requirements of a
busy department

* Being self-motivated and focused

* Being technical and analytical

Essential:

* Higher education in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent recognised
engineering apprenticeship

* Knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering Technology

* Supervisory Experience

* Project Management Skills

* Must be competent to provide engineering Maintenance Leadership and support the site
maintenance team

* Good knowledge of statutory compliance obligations and Approved Codes of Practice for and
not limited to:

o ATEX & DSEAR

o PSSR

o PUWER

o LOLER

Desired:

* Bachelor's degree in the engineering field

* Experience within a manufacturing environment within bulk manufacturing i.e. elevators, conveyors, electrical motors etc.

* Steam Systems and boiler experience (BOMSA)

* Project Management Qualifications

* History of improving team performance
